Note that in the article, the following statement is made: ...and has Microsoft Windows support but use of it is discouraged since the Windows version requires giving personally identifiable information in order to be allowed to download it and redistribution of the Windows version is illegal. The provided sources do not back up this claim, and it seems to be inaccurate and misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.139.78.38 (talk) 10:32, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

In referenced to all the "citation needed" on the date of Puppet (formerly Puppet Labs, formerly Reductive Labs) being founded - I found an article which might shed some light on where the 2005 figure quoted in this article came from: https://redmonk.com/cote/2009/06/24/reductivelabs/ Loz hurst (talk) 17:44, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Puppet Basic Info Update (Conflict of Interest edit request)

edit

Full disclosure first I work at Perforce and would like to correct some basic information on this page. I would like to 1) update Puppet logo to new logo. 2) put Perforce as the Developer(s) as Puppet was acquired by them in 2022 - right now developer is listed as Puppet and just links to the same page it is on. Happy to add a field with "Original author(s): Puppet" if that is standard practice. 3) Change "Puppet Inc., is a subsidiary of Perforce based in Portland, Oregon, USA." which reflects the old Puppet headquarters to "Puppet Inc., is a subsidiary of Perforce based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA." as Perforce is headquartered in Minnesota.

These changes are for accuracy and clarity purposes around Perforce acquiring Puppet. See supporting evidence: https://www.puppet.com (branding evidence), Perforce Software acquires Puppet, Perforce - Wikipedia where Puppet is listed as a product, Puppet page on Perforce site: https://www.perforce.com/products/puppet AbbyatPerforce (talk) 15:58, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi @AbbyatPerforce! I'll be happy to assist in updating the article to reflect the current structure and brand.
Could you help pull together some additional secondary sources that have covered the specific topics?
I think some of the existing sources will cover some of the content, but the more non-primary sources we can reference here, the better (i.e., not explicitly relying on other Perforce's corporate sites, product sites, developer forums/blogs, etc).
While the Perforce article on Wikipedia has some additional references, the article alone can't be cited as a reference (we will need to identify the references and add them to this article so that it can stand on its own).
As for the logo, that should be an easy edit since it is already uploaded in an appropriate, non-copyright-violating way for the Perforce article—I will update that shortly here.
Thanks for being transparent about your conflict of interest — very much appreciated! Pedantical (talk) 17:54, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Here are some additional sources around the acquisition: Perforce acquires Puppet • The Register states "Perforce, a Minnesota-based maker of DevOps software, on Monday announced the acquisition of Puppet, an Oregon-based maker of configuration management tools" in its first line. DevOps Blockbuster: Perforce Software Acquires Puppet | CRN also talks about the acquisition and mentions Perforce is Minneapolis based.
I can't find any 3rd party information about the branding update. The only existing content around the rebrand is from Perforce: A Refreshed Look: How Perforce’s New Brand Embodies the DevOps Edge | Perforce Software and focuses on the corporate rebrand and why they did it - no explicit mention of the Puppet logo being updated to align with corporate.
