- Ah, thank you. Are the other photos all of plaster casts? Chauvet says that his photos were taken in Papeete c. 1885. He says:
- Front and back of the tablet from Easter Island that belongs to Park and Davis and Co. (reproduced in Thomson’s book). This tablet, which does not have a Rapanui name, has nine lines of signs on the front and eight on the back. One corner is damaged and it has numerous holes. These photographs were taken in Papeete (Tahiti) by the widow of Mr. Hoare more than fifty years ago.

Deciphered
edit"The great ones walk with the stars, their path written in the heavens.
The land speaks through the trees, the sea sings through the waves.
The spirits watch over the people, guiding them beyond the horizon.
The sun rises, the moon follows, the cycle of life is never broken.
The voices of the elders are carved into wood, their wisdom remembered in song.
We offer gifts to the gods, we honor the ancestors, we continue the journey.
The path of the ocean is known, the guiding lights never fade."
