Useful standard reference for isotopes recommended for use on pages covered by Wikipedia:WikiProject Elements.

Verification

edit

Diagrams in the first few pages of NUBASE that represent trends in nuclides. The chart of nuclides on page 11 (page 12 of the PDF document) illustrates the most common decay mode of each nuclide as well as the lightest and heaviest isotope of each element.

Naturally occurring isotopes and atomic weights, the abundance for each isotope can be readily verified in the NUBASE data. The sums of the abundances for all naturally occurring isotopes must add up to 1 (100%).

Determining decay products for each stated decay mode is also a routine calculation, so it is sufficient to cite either the decay mode or the decay product by itself.

When there are exceptions, most often for isotopes discovered more recently than NUBASE was published, add an additional citation.

  • As a reference, with ref name="NUBASE2020":

{{NUBASE2020|ref}} → <ref name="NUBASE2020">{{cite journal|...}}</ref> → Produces:[1]

  • Use name only (repeated use in article):
{{NUBASE2020|name}} → <ref name="NUBASE2020"/>
This ref name is spelled exactly as the template name: NUBASE2020/doc
Optional parameters
  • |ref= is passed to the citation, for example:
{{NUBASE2020 |ref={{harvid|''NUBASE2020''|2020}}}}
  • |page= is passed to the citation, for example:

Number of isotopes listed

edit

Per the NUBASE 2020 introduction:

The NUBASE2020 evaluation contains recommended properties for the ground state of 3340 nuclides and for 1938 excited isomeric (T1/2100 ns)
It also includes information for yet unobserved nuclei (218 in their ground state and 45 excited isomers) whose properties were estimated by following the systematic trends in neighboring nuclei (TNN)

Which adds up to:

3340 ground state
1938 excited isomeric
 218 unobserved, estimated; ground state
  45 unobserved, estimated; excited state

5541 isotopes are listed
