Usage

Where

{{{text}}} is the reconstructed text (positional {{{1}}})
{{{written}}} is optional; the written Chinese characters for the word(s) (positional {{{3}}})
{{{modern}}} is optional; the modern Mandarin pronunciation of the word(s) (positional {{{3}}})
{{{show_lang}}} optionally suppresses the link to Old Chinese.
{{{suppress_reconstruction_link}}} optionally suppresses the link to Reconstruction of Old Chinese.

Template to mark phonetically reconstructed strings in the Old Chinese language, for example: {{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ}} → *‍kʰˤoŋʔ.

Additionally, we can do:

{{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ.
{{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔|kǒng}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ, mod. kǒng.

You can suppress the link to Reconstruction of Old Chinese in the asterisk with:

{{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔|kǒng}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ, mod. kǒng

As can be seen from the example above, this template does not cause its content to be set in italics, so text should be italicized around this template, per MOS:FOREIGNITALIC.

This template forces whitespace not to wrap. To use this template for more than a few words, set |wrap=normal to allow word-wrapping.
