The template is assuming English subtitles for TimedText, i.e. "ogg.en.srt". That line in the message should probably be generalized to:

 • Page titles should be in the format "TimedText:Media file name.ogg.[language].srt", where the language is a ISO 639-1 code (list).
 • Page titles should be in the format "TimedText:Media file name.ogg.en.srt", or "TimedText:Media file name.ogg.[language].srt", where the language is a MediaWiki language code (i.e. ".ogg.de.srt" for German subtitles, or ".ogg.en-gb.srt" for British English subtitles).

For context, here are the subtitle files for File:I Have A Dream sample.ogg:

@Andy M. Wang: Do you know what language codes are used here exactly? I'm guessing that they're MediaWiki language codes, but I'm not sure (and I've learned the hard way that MediaWiki language codes are different from ISO 639-1 - some are three-letter codes, some have qualifiers, and some are completely non-standard, like "simple" for Simple English). — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 07:01, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Mr. Stradivarius: ... haha actually I'm not sure, I was just assuming, because I do know that we use ISO 639 to name the Wikimedia project languages (like "en" and "es" and "it", etc). I suppose we can leave that part off. What I know from what I've seen is a language code followed by an optional country code. Should we ping anyone else? — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 07:21, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
It should be safe to assume that TimedText won't be used if there is not a media file, so simply saying it must match the media file name isn't enough? — xaosflux Talk 11:39, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Extended content
According to commons:Commons:Video#Subtitles and closed captioning, it should be enough, but I don't know if simply ".ogg" actually gets picked up by the file. Updated my suggested change above. Most files follow the ".ogg.en.srt" suggestion. Those ending simply in ".ogg" have a language menu to translate. Example:
Side note, we have some badly named srts, even a user's sandbox that ended up in this space. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 17:46, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Have disabled the request as it does not seem to be clearly defined, and discussion has stalled. Please reactivate with a specific request if needed. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:56, 20 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking this would happen... but that's all right. I filed this request because I thought saying ".ogg.en.srt" wasn't general enough. (I struck out some of my statements above) — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 16:47, 20 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please change

SubRip subtitle format

to

SubRip subtitle format

to fix the link. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:18, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Looks like that header was removed without fanfare two years ago, but the content largely remains; wouldn't SubRip#SubRip software. Truth be told, I don't see why that section couldn't just be added back, it seems appropriate? ~ Amory (utc) 09:22, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Amorymeltzer: given how short the article is, I don't think it needs another section divider, but if you want to add it back I don't object --DannyS712 (talk) 18:30, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please change to

{{editnotice
| id = timedtext-ns-editnotice
| header = Welcome to the TimedText namespace
| text = This namespace contains subtitle data for local media files. (Subtitles for files on Wikimedia Commons should be added on that project.)
* Page titles should be in the format "TimedText:<span style="color:var(--color-subtle, #54595d)>Media file name</span>.ogg.en.srt".
* Please follow the SubRip subtitle format.
