Template talk:Infobox artifact

Registration, ID

edit

What are the differences between |registration= and |id= (the template code for the former has an HTML comment, "may be distinct from id"), and how do they relate to |accession= in {{Infobox artwork}}? Could someone update the documentation to clarify, please? Are they both used? Could they be merged, and the names used by the two templates standardised? Map

edit

Is the point of the "map" parameter supposed to be used for artifacts that are still in situ? Otherwise, for objects that have been removed to a museum, it's unclear whether "A map of the ___location of the artefact" refers to the artifact's ___location as found, or its current ___location within a museum. --Usernameunique (talk) 01:53, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Image2 parameters

edit

Is there a way to add alt text, or a caption, to a second image? I am trying to do so with the Pliezhausen brooch, but only get an error message. --Usernameunique (talk) 02:43, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I was also wondering this, as the Amphora article currently uses its main infobox caption to include an awkward "Below:", with a carriage return. An alt2 was added at some point, but no caption2, so I've added and documented the latter. --Belbury (talk) 13:11, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Parameter spelling

edit

The parameter "Civilization" is supposed to allow the British spelling ie "Civilisation" except that even after changing it for the article: Sueno's Stone, it still displays with "z". Can someone fix this? --Bill Reid | (talk) 17:09, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request edit to allow infobox to be embedded

edit

Hello! I'm working on an article that would benefit from {{Infobox artifact}} being expanded so that it can be embeded with a module parameter in {{infobox artwork}} properly. If someone would be kind enough to make this possible through editing the template, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Tyrone Madera (talk) 17:43, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Type

edit

I've added an optional |type= parameter. See, for example, the template on Lady of Elche. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Provenance"

edit

Straight forward request for an added "Provenance" section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HiddenHistoryPedia (talkcontribs) 22:19, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

"long" vs "width"

edit

This template has "width" and then it has "long". Is there any good reason this should not be "length" instead of "long"? In common english, it's "length" and "width", vs "long" and "wide". The "size" field may be adequately suited for most pages using this template, but taking e.g. Pesse canoe, length and width seem altogether more appropriate than "size". Request: imageclass

edit

Here and there, we have infoboxes whose primary images are black-on-transparent SVGs. These are almost invisible with the dark mode gadget turned on. From what I can tell, the solution to this is to be able to add a class parameter to the image tag so we can set it to skin-invert-image.

However, this isn't currently possible in this particular template, which doesn't support the imageclass parameter that's used to do this in infoboxes. From what I can tell by looking at other templates (ex: {{Infobox grapheme}}), the parameter can be enabled by adding

class={{{imageclass|}}}

to the {{#invoke:InfoboxImage|function}} invocation. I'd do this myself, but have basically zero experience creating or editing templates and don't want to bork thousands of articles. -- Avocado (talk) 02:12, 6 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
