Subtitles

edit

Is there any way to get the subtitle without the series column? - X201 (talk) 09:23, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Which parameters are you referring to? And do you have an example of where you'd like this? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:21, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I want to recreate the table below using the template.
Season Episodes Originally aired DVD release date
Season premiere Season finale

1 12 May 11, 2004 (2004-05-11) November 6, 2006 (2006-11-06) May 23, 2007[1]
2 6 May 4, 2007 (2007-05-04) August 23, 2008 (2008-08-23)
Television series

April 16, 2011[3] (Worldwide)

I've tried the document page but it appears that you can only have sub-headings like "Web series" and "Television series" if you use the multiseries option, which then gives a series column, which is not needed in this case. - X201 (talk) 16:43, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Adding subheadings in the middle of a table like that is generally discouraged due to accessibility issues. I also disagree that the series column is not needed here, as looking at Pure Pwnage and List of Pure Pwnage episodes it appears you are using this overview table for two different series: the original web series and then the 2010 TV adaptation. I don't see why this wouldn't be an appropriate format for such a table:

Thanks, adamstom97 (talk) 12:08, 22 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, Adam's suggestion would be the way to go X201. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:16, 23 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Or you could also split up the overviews and have two, one for the Web series and one for the TV series, similar to what List of Bluey episodes does with its two overviews. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:18, 23 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I would also agree with Favre and Adam's suggestions. I'd also note, though, that the rowspan option is indeed possible (see here and the source code, for example), though this does cause an issue with MOS:COLHEAD. -- Alex_21 TALK 20:09, 23 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks all. I've used your table. The backstory: I'm converting all the television articles that use episode list, but then wrap it in a wikitable instead of the episode table template. Occasionally I come across series overview tables where editors have taken the same freestyle approach. I convert them to the series overview template and try and try to keep them in the same format that I found them; hence asking about the subheadings. - X201 (talk) 08:46, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Don't feel too committed to keeping the exact style. Part of the reason we use standardize templates is to better confirm with the MoS and other guidelines. A lot of what people did in the past or today manually, is just bad and shouldn't be supported. Gonnym (talk) 09:09, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Acronyms

edit

Could editors please do something to improve the accessibility of the acronyms in this template? The acronym TBA is not properly explained. This is an encyclopedia, somebody somewhere wont know what that acronym means. Wikipedia is committed to accessibility and acronyms should normally have tooltips to explain what they mean. I would expect that the formatting of Template:TBA or Template:TableTBA could be copied here instead of overloading Template:NA a semantically meaningful template could be used. (If template programmers could check with accessibility designers or user of screen reading software to make sure their requirements are not being overlooked that would be even better.) -- 109.76.128.55 (talk) 02:01, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

  Done Valid accessability request. Changed frame:expandTemplate{title='N/A',args={'TBA'}} to tableEmptyCellModule._main({}), similar to what Module:Episode list uses. -- Alex_21 TALK 03:38, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Category:Articles using Template:Series overview with deprecated start-parameter format

edit

There is an issue with the code that is triggering this category, it is picking up examples like List of Star Wars television series where there is a start and end parameter but the end parameter is empty. This is a valid use of the template, we don't always know an end date when we know a start date. - adamstom97 (talk) 13:24, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Aux parameters don't auto span with split seasons

edit

When using the table for a single series (ie not a multi-use/franchise situation), the aux parameter does not auto span when a split season is used, which is not what the documentation says. See Marvel Studios: Legends for what I mean. I set |auxA2A= with the assumption it would cover both "auxA2A" and "auxA2B" since the next "auxA" introduction is |auxA3=. However it initially gave me issues because a span wasn't set. Just flagging if this should be changed in the code, or if not, then clarified in the documentation. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:27, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
