She began her career from 1899 to 1901 in small roles at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna, and then from 1901 to 1902 she was engaged in Troppau (Opava). From 1902 to 1903 she was engaged in Linz on the Danube, and from 1901 to 1906 at the Theater in Graz. From 1908 to 1910 she worked at the Raimund Theater in Vienna. From 1910 to 1913 she was the first dramatic soprano at the Stadttheater (opera house) in Hamburg, where she enjoyed great success. She made guest appearances at the court theaters in Karlsruhe (1912) and Mannheim (1912), and at the Leipzig Opera House (1912). In 1910 she appeared as a guest at the Vienna Court Opera, and from 1913 to 1914 she was engaged at the Chicago Opera. There, in 1913, she sang Blanchefleur in the American premiere of W. Kienzl's opera "Der Kuhreigen" (The Cow Dance) in French (under the title "Le Ranz-des-vaches"). She devoted herself intensively to contemporary music on stage and especially in the concert hall. She sang in the premieres of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 ("Symphony of a Thousand," September 12, 1910, Munich), Arnold Schoenberg's "The Book of Hanging Gardens" (Vienna, January 14, 1910), and Tove in the premiere of his "Gurrelieder" (Vienna, February 23, 1913). She repeated this role at the work's premiere in Leipzig in 1914. She continued to give guest performances until 1933 and then lived as a teacher in Hamburg. She retired from the stage in 1933 as the Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier." She was married to the conductor and composer Arnold Winternitz (1874-1927), and sang in the premiere of his opera "Meister Grobian" in Hamburg in 1918. After his death, she married pianist Richard Goldschmied for the second time. Her technically excellent coloratura voice can be heard on acoustic Pathé and Parlophon recordings.
