Tasek Dam[a] (Malay: Empangan Tasek[b]) is a dam in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. Built in 1965, it is the first dam built in the country.[1] It has the capacity to hold about 2 million gallons of water.[2] The dam is also home to a prominent recreational park in the capital.
Construction
editThe dam is built on a 60-acre (24 ha) site on a hill near an old pool.[2] It was built by the Government of Brunei at a cost of B$8.5 million at that time.[2] The dam was inaugurated on 13 February 1965 by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III,[2] the 28th Sultan of Brunei and the father of the current monarch Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
Recreational park
editThe dam has also also been developed into a recreational park.
