Randburg Football Club was founded by Barry (club coach) & Elizabeth Sanders (secretary/treasurer).It was inaugurated on the 7th March,1974 & joined the Southern Transvaal Football Association. Because there were no municipal football fields in Randburg the Club was fortune when Miss Rose Shaer (Principal) loaned the club a football field at IR Primary School where our two eldest daughters attended. Clr Howard Green gifted the Club R250.00 to help fund the first season. At the first training session there were 5 U12 boys. By the end of the season we had 2 X U12 & a U10 team. At the end of the season RFC toured Durban playing against Parkhill & Yellowwood Park.The first 2 years our games were played at IR Griffith Primary School, the a year at MacIntosh Park,Parkhurst,where we started a senior side.We did not have floodlights during this period.
On Tuesday,1st April,1975,the RFC U14 was part of South African football history. In their first ever league game the had been invited to play North City (managed by Neville Nathan).It was the curtain raiser to the Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates, in the Champions of Champions semi-final at the Rand Stadium. It was the first time that two black football teams had played at South Africa's premier football stadium. And the attendance has been estimated by one of sports writers to be 45,000.
In 1978 RFC received it's permanent ground from the Randburg Municipality. Seven years before planned date in 1980.
In September,1979 RFC, at their own grounds ,hosted their Kaizer Chiefs counter parts. The results were U10 RFC 2 Chiefs 1.U12 RFC 0 Chiefs 2.U14 RFC 5 Chiefs 0. Colts RFC 0 Colts 0.
In September,1980 RFC hosted Orlando Pirates, winning the game 4-0,Dean Sidwell scored a hattrick.
In 1975 RFC celebrated it's 50th Anniversary & besides Barry & Liz Sanders,7 boys from 1975 attended a reunion celebration.
The Club is extremely well maintained & the fields are very well maintained. The trophy cabinets & walls have many trophies & flags won or from tours local & overseas. The Club has been blessed to have fine managers, coaches & administrators to have to have grown to a very well respective club.To name just a few-Greg Green, Valerie Bakos, Kevin Mudie
