Early life

edit

Sealey is the son of the late Les Sealey, former Manchester United and West Ham United goalkeeper. He grew up in Essex and attended Roding Valley High School.[1] His father's sudden death in 2001 had a major impact on Sealey's life and mental health.[2]

Football career

edit

Playing

edit

Sealey joined the academy at West Ham United F.C. as a goalkeeper and trained with the reserve team. However, he never made a first‑team appearance and was forced to retire at the age of 21 due to a serious back injury.[3]

Agent

edit

After his playing career ended, Sealey became a licensed football agent. Together with his wife Nicole, he ran a sports management agency, representing players and boxers such as Roy Carroll and Dylan Tombides.[4]

In 2019, Sealey expressed interest in buying Bury F.C. and later entered discussions to acquire Macclesfield Town before it folded.[5][6]

Business ventures

edit

Sealey has founded and sold multiple businesses. In 2017, he and Nicole founded Neon, a luxury personal training and wellness brand in Cheshire.[7]

In 2022, he acquired the UK trademark to Mr. Whippy, a nostalgic British ice cream brand, and relaunched it as Mr. Whippy UK.[8] In 2024, the brand launched a line of cupcakes in partnership with Iceland Foods.[9]

He also launched an alcohol brand called Truth Drinks and has stated he built and exited at least three multimillion‑pound businesses.[10]

Media appearances

edit

The Real Housewives of Cheshire

edit

Sealey appears regularly on The Real Housewives of Cheshire as the husband of Nicole Sealey, who joined the show in 2020. Though not an official housewife, Joe has featured in multiple seasons and is recognised for his blunt humour and supportive presence.[1]

He co‑hosts a podcast with Nicole titled A Husband and a Housewife, where they discuss their lives and relationship.[11]

Personal life

edit

Sealey married Nicole Courtenay (now Sealey), daughter of former Manchester City footballer John Courtenay. The couple live in Cheshire with their three children. Their son Remi is in the Huddersfield Town academy.[1]

Following his father's death, Sealey struggled with addiction to cocaine and alcohol in his twenties but recovered. His memoir, On Days Like These, co‑written with Tim Rich, documents this journey and was long‑listed for the 2023 William Hill Sports Book of the Year award.[2][12]

Sealey is a trustee of the DT38 Foundation, a testicular cancer awareness charity founded in memory of Dylan Tombides.[13]
