Grace Tamara Rumsey is a Zambian actress, film producer, voice-over artist, and television host. She is best known for portraying the character Mwaka in the Zambezi Magic television drama series Fever. Her performance in the series earned her a nomination for Most Outstanding Female Actor at the 2019 Zambian Ngoma Awards.

Early life and education

Grace developed an interest in the performing arts at a young age, participating in school plays such as The Jungle Book during her primary years. She pursued acting throughout her education and later trained at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre. She returned to Zambia to continue her career in the local creative industry.

Grace began her acting journey in 2010 with supporting roles in the television mini-drama My Country. She rose to prominence through her role as Faridah in the award-winning series Love Games (2012), which won accolades at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Grace gained wider acclaim for her portrayal of Mwaka, a central character in the drama series Fever, which aired on Zambezi Magic. In 2022, she expanded into comedy with the sitcom My Family Wahala, playing the role of Eva. In the same year, she starred as Madusa in Season 3 of the drama series Makofi. She has also featured in the acclaimed series Zuba—Zambia's first telenovela—where she produced its second season in 2018–2019.

Film

In 2018, Rumsey co-produced and starred in the film Colour of Love. Her performance in the short film Dilemma (2016) earned her two awards—Best Producer and Best Short Film—at the Zambian Short Film Festival.[1] In 2023, she played a supporting lead role as Brenda in the feature film Can You See Us, which premiered on Netflix and gained international recognition in countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and the USA. Her latest film, Misnormer, made its streaming debut on Amazon Prime Video in December 2024 following appearances at major film festivals including the Zambia International Film Festival and Africa International Film Festival. In the film, she portrays Sue, a tech genius on a covert mission to expose mass murders targeting people with albinism in Malawi and East Africa. The film was written and directed by Malawian-American filmmaker Chawesi Munthali.

Production work

Grace has produced multiple short films including Unnoticed, Service, and Uncertainty in 2024. The first two were collaborations with the U.S. Embassy in support of the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Health, focusing on mental health awareness under the Mindset Change Creations initiative.

Television hosting

Beyond acting, Grace has hosted talk and lifestyle shows. In 2016, she curated Season 4 of Kumwesu, a lifestyle magazine show aired on Zambezi Magic. She later hosted The Chat talk show on MozoTV in 2020.

Advocacy and social impact

Rumsey is a passionate advocate for autism awareness, women’s rights, and HIV/AIDS education. She served as an ambassador for the Every Hour Matters campaign in 2018. As a mother to an autistic child, she launched the Voice of Elisha Foundation in 2023 to champion autism advocacy and inclusive storytelling through film.

She has also worked with the creative team at Mindset Change Creations to produce advocacy films centered on mental health, including playing a lead role in the short film Mindset.
