editAb Aziz Al-Safi was born in Malaysia on 4 November 1957. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1983 and a Master in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Malaya (UM) in 1990, focusing on preventive medicine and community health.[1] In 1998, he completed his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Disease in Type 2 Diabetes at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.[2] In 2018, he received a Fellowship in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (FINEM) from Kochi, India.[3]
Academic and professional career
editProf. Ab Aziz began his career as a house officer at General Hospital Kota Bharu, Prof. Dr. Ab Aziz served in various medical and epidemiological roles, including State Director of Health in Johor Baru. He held a professorship and headed the Department of Community Medicine at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) from 1992 to 2017. Since 2018, he has been a professor at Lincoln University College, Kota Bharu.[4]
Currently, he is the Senior Consultant at Clinic Dr Aziz Al-Safi and Neo Medicare Sdn Bhd, where he practices functional and nutritional medicine. His approach integrates modern medical science with nutritional therapy, lifestyle modification, and traditional techniques such as clinical cupping.[5]
Research and publications
editProf. Dr. Ab Aziz has led numerous significant research projects funded by the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
