Ramon B. Segismundo is a Filipino business executive, educator, and human resources (HR) strategist. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of One HRX, a consultancy firm based in Singapore that specializes in HR transformation and executive coaching. Segismundo has held senior HR and leadership roles at Meralco, Wyeth, and GlaxoSmithKline, and is currently a Fellow at Stanford University's Distinguished Careers Institute.[1]
Early life and education
editSegismundo earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the Philippines. He later completed his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Singapore Management University in 2020, where he authored a dissertation titled Predictors of Returning Filipino Expatriates’ Job Success. He is also a certified executive coach, having trained with the Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute.[2]
Career
editEarly corporate roles
editSegismundo began his professional career at Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV), then affiliated with Arthur Andersen, where he served as Consulting Manager in the Organization and Human Resources Management Group from 1981 to 1987. During this time, he developed a foundational expertise in core HR processes, including organizational design, performance management, compensation, and talent development.
From 1988 to 1990, he was Country Human Resources Director at Sterling Products International, where he led the implementation of a company-wide quality improvement system. He later joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 1991, initially serving as Vice President for Human Resources in Asia Pacific. [3] Over more than a decade with GSK, Segismundo played a key role in the integration of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham—then the largest pharmaceutical merger in the region. He collaborated with external consultants such as Boston Consulting Group and Spencer Stuart to design the post-merger organization and select key executives.
In 2002, Segismundo was appointed Vice President for International Human Resources at GSK’s global headquarters in London. In this capacity, he was responsible for HR strategy and policy across all international markets in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Canada, Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. He co-chaired GSK’s International Human Resources Leadership Team and led the International Talent Review Process, focusing on succession planning and leadership development for emerging markets.[4]
From 2005 to 2007, he was Vice President for Human Resources in Asia Pacific at Wyeth, while also serving as global HR head of Nutrition. Based in the Collegeville, Pennsylvania, United States, he led organizational restructuring and implemented talent and retention strategies across the region.[5]
Returning to Southeast Asia, he served as Executive Consultant for Personnel Decisions International Corporation in Singapore from 2008 to 2009, where he coached senior executives and developed leadership programs for multinational clients.
Meralco and executive leadership
editFrom 2010 to 2018, Segismundo served as Senior Vice President for Human Resources and Corporate Services at Manila Electric Company (Meralco). He led a wide-ranging organizational transformation that improved business results, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement. Under his leadership, Meralco was recognized with several awards, including the Asian Human Capital Top Employer Award (2012) and the People Manager of the Year Award (2014). He concurrently served as President of the Meralco Power Academy from 2014 to 2019, supporting energy sector capacity-building through education and training.
He was the Chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Asia's first professional basketball league, in 2013-2014 having served as Meralco's Governor in the PBA Board from 2010-2014. Concurrently, he was Chairman of the Meralco subsidiary Customer FrontLine Solutions, Inc. from 2011-2018; and Board Director of Bayad Center-Computer Information Systems, Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation, General Electric Philippines Meter and Instrument Company, and MIESCOR Rail.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Hijo Group of Companies in the Philippines, overseeing operations across agribusiness, logistics, tourism, property development, and food manufacturing.[6] In 2019, he helped launch a Smart City hub in Metro Davao focused on agricultural and biotechnology innovations.[7]
Entrepreneurship and consulting
editIn 2018, Segismundo founded One HRX Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based consultancy. The firm works with CEOs and leadership teams across Asia and the United States, offering services in organizational transformation, executive coaching, strategic HR, and innovation. He currently leads the firm as CEO.[8]
Since 2022, he has served as a Senior Management Expert for the Philippine Justice Sector Reform Programme: Governance in Justice (GOJUST), advising the Supreme Court on organizational design, human resources, and change management.
Academic and professional contributions
editSegismundo has held teaching roles at multiple academic institutions. In parallel with his corporate work, Segismundo has held several academic and teaching appointments. In 2004, he was part of the adjunct faculty at the Asian Institute of Management, where he taught Talent Management in the Executive MBA program and contributed to a leadership development program in Pune, India. He also served as adjunct faculty at the University of the Philippines Virata School of Business, teaching Strategic Human Resources to MBA students in 2016 and 2019.
From 2020 to present, he is a Senior Professional Lecturer at the De La Salle University Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business, where he taught courses in strategic and cross-cultural management to undergraduate and graduate students. He is also a professorial chairholder at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.[9]
As a recognized thought leader, Segismundo has been a Fellow at Stanford University’s Distinguished Careers Institute for the 2023–2024 academic year. He is also a member of the International Advisory Council for the Philippines at Singapore Management University, contributing to regional perspectives in education and leadership.[10]
