Known forFounder of the Audia AI assistant [2]

Bailey Reid Gwyn is an American interdisciplinary researcher, systems developer, disability-rights advocate and musician. Gwyn is best known for creating Audia, a locally hosted artificial-intelligence assistant that uses a modular “brain-like” architecture and prioritises privacy for people with complex medical needs.[3] Gwyn’s public work also includes advocacy for disability rights, open-source educational resources on genetics and neuroscience, and original music releases.

Early life and education

edit

Gwyn grew up in North Carolina and displayed an early interest in both Science and music.[4] Diagnosed with hyperthymesia—highly superior autobiographical memory—during adolescence, Gwyn also lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and associated autonomic and neurological conditions.[5] These experiences later shaped Gwyn’s research in functional genomics and patient-led technology. Gwyn is currently pursuing doctoral research in translational neurobehavioral health science, functional genomics and systems biology, focusing on assistive technologies for chronic illness.[1]

Career

edit

Audia AI assistant (2024–present)

edit

Gwyn began building Audia in 2024 as a self-improving assistant that can run entirely offline using tools such as Ollama and QLoRA for on-device fine-tuning.[2] Key features include:

  • **Kernel layer** – memory management, autonomy engine and metrics monitor
  • **Interfaces** – command-line, FastAPI web GUI and Telegram integration
  • **Privacy design** – local data storage, opt-in memory logging, GGUF model export
  • **Accessibility modules** – speech, large-text UI and medical terminology helpers

Pilot trials with healthcare providers and medical-cannabis dispensaries explored using Audia to generate terpene profiles and personalised patient chemotypes.[6]

Research and publications

edit
  • Development of a 600-variant SNP analysis pipeline for connective-tissue and neuropsychiatric phenotypes.[7]
  • Educational series on the somatic and central nervous systems hosted on Gwyn’s site, baileygwyn.xyz.[8]
  • Forthcoming paper on cannabis chemotypes and AI-generated terpene profiling.[9]

Advocacy

edit

Gwyn is active in disability and educational-rights advocacy:

  • Filed civil-rights complaints with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights regarding long-standing ADA and FERPA violations by Surry County Schools.[10]
  • Produced open letters and “Advocacy in Action” toolkits for families navigating school disability law.[11]
  • Created media campaigns on medical gas-lighting and stigma around rare connective-tissue disorders.[12]

Music

edit

Under the stage name **Bailey G**, Bailey writes and performs experimental ambient and folk music. Independent EPs have been released on streaming platforms since 2020, with themes of chronic-illness resilience and neurodivergent experience.[13] |}

Personal life

edit

Gwyn often discusses living with hyperthymesia and chronic illness in public talks and writings, emphasising patient-centric design in technology.[14]
