Thank you. Given your interest in trains in general, may I ask why there isn't a category dedicated to Mixed-traffic locomotives? Given that there are ones for passenger, freight, and shunting locomotives. Machine Man77 (talk) 20:39, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Machine Man77, that category had once existed, but was deleted according to this Category for discussion (CfD), stating that the category is considered too broad for its purpose. EditorGirlAL07 (talk) 06:53, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Another question, seeing as there's already a subcategory labelled "Passenger locomotives in the United Kingdom" within "Passenger locomotives", would it be appropriate to relocate all British passenger locomotives to that category? Machine Man77 (talk) 15:44, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes it would. I have done it. Good suggestion. -- Verbarson  talkedits 12:51, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you.
On a side note, who should I ask regarding the creation of new categories, Like if I wanted to create a category for "Boxcab locomotives" or "Locomotives withdrawn in [insert year here]"? Machine Man77 (talk) 14:37, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think that Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains is a good place to go.
It seems to me that most loco articles are about a class of locos, and very few classes are all withdrawn in one year, so it might be difficult to decide which year to categorise a loco class in? -- Verbarson  talkedits 14:52, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the directions.
And by the way, I was thinking by the year in which no members of a class were left in regular service. So I guess it should be "withdrawn by" instead of "withdrawn in"> Machine Man77 (talk) 14:56, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Machine Man77, if you want to create a new category, I would highly recommend using Wikipedia:CREATECAT as a guide. EditorGirlAL07 (talk) 01:21, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
