User page deletion
Thank you! Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:40, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Hey I'm not sure why the page Andrew Kramer was deleted. I was indeed aware that there was copyrighted content on the page, but it was removed as soon as I was notified that it violated wikipedia's terms of use. This man has had a very significant impact in the visual effects training field, so it seems that the page fits all wikipedia criteria, at least to my knowing. If you are unable to fix this I understand, but I urge you to re examine your argument. Have a good day, and thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisgarrison (talk • contribs) 20:46, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- Two points first - if it says at the top of a page to post at the bottom, please do. It's standard protocol here to add new threads and posts downwards. Also, please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ which might seem silly, but it puts your sig and the date/time stamp on. OK. Kramer (small k - there has been another different person with a K some of which looks like spam) may be notable. You don't make him look notable. Producers, directors, writers (not always), composers - names in large print and on all the posters. Graphics people rarely get into the limelight. And, I'm afraid, that's what might sink Kramer. His site, IMDb, and what looks like a contact page (watch out for our promotion policy there...) can't show notability. Please read WP:BIO about bio notability, and WP:RS about reliable independent sources. IMDb is a useful source as an external link for more info, but it cannot show notability as the info is largely subject supplied. (There are exceptions - Adolf Hitler certainly didn't write his entry there...) Own sites may be reliable (a lot aren't), but they are not independent. (Conversely, The National Enquirer is independent, bur far from reliable.) We want reliable AND independent. Have another go, at User:Chrisgarrison/DRAFT (click and save), and talk to MelanieN (type User talk:MelanieN into the search bar and ask her to have a look at what you've got. Start with the refs and build around them. If you can't find any that fit RS, see if she can. If she's away, come back to me. (I'm quite a way down the table from her at rescuing things.) If and when things look OK, we can move your draft to Andrew Kramer as we like correct capitals. Work in userspace - you're safe from patrollers there so long as you avoid copyvio, attack, hoax and spam. Those are forbidden everywhere, and it's amazing where some of the patrollers get to. Peridon (talk) 21:29, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- To indent like this, use : at the line start for the first reply, then add one more than the post above for later things. Don't be offput by your career here so far. We do have an insistence on notability, and it can take a bit of getting used to. Rusk stands no chance as it's an unknown who isn't even shooting for over a year. A Spielberg future film is likely to have plenty of coverage from the time the ink dried on the contract, but one from someone who is only 16 now is really pushing things. Once again, IMDb can't help notability. Peridon (talk) 21:40, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Why?
Why would you delete the page Lewis Hotchin, when i have followed his fame and fortune since he was young? You labeled this as a blatant hoax but it wasnt! please reconsider my good friend :) love from jjcoolio — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jjcoolio (talk • contribs) 13:12, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Produce evidence that actually proves that it wasn't a hoax and we might reconsider. Read WP:RS and don't try to take us for fools. BTW I didn't 'label' (we use 'tag') it - that was someone else. I deleted it. The first version of the page was deleted as non-notable, and the second as a hoax. I agree with both decisions. If another unsuitable one appears, it might well lead to the title being protected from creation. Peridon (talk) 13:21, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
I just got the notification that a bot believes my page on Sophy Gardner breeches copyright, but when I come to update it (it was taking longer than I'd like being my first page), it had already been deleted by your good self. Can it be reverted so I can post my updates so it conforms with the policy? B Kirby (talk) 21:07, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, no. I can't restore a copyright violation. You'll need to read WP:BIO about notability, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources you need to prove it. Then, if you think the subject passes BIO, you can write a new article keeping well away from the format and wording of Ms Gardner's profile. I'd suggest doing it at User:Mrbpkirby/DRAFT, which is safer. The patrollers and bots can only tag for copyvio, attack, hoax and spam in userr space. They have free rein in article space... When you think it's finished, let me know or if I'm not around, ask almost any regular editor or admin. If you think you need help (Wikipedia is free to edit, but no-one says it's easy), ask MelanieN (type User talk:MelanieN into the search bar). She's good at rescuing things. Being a resident of the USA, she'll also be quite neutral. (I live in the UK, but am apolitical. I'm not a resident of Gloucester, but do enjoy a sandwich and pint of something at the Café René from time to time). Please remember that being a candidate does not give notability for Wikipedia purposes. Any coverage that is on that aspect of her career doesn't count. It has to be on the rest of her life and work that we judge. Peridon (talk) 21:22, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

- That INNOCENTBYSTANDER name rings a bell - I was looking at an SPI the other day where there was a name like that. Unfortunately, I didn't comment there so I can't find it now. (It was through an unblock request and I didn't do anything there either...). I've looked through the open SPI list, and none of the names look likely. Peridon (talk) 21:32, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Please explain how this page was was unverifiable and deleted?
Dan6285 (talk) 12:08, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- No Google hits except the article and an irrelevant one (mikkie, shuffle). Not encyclopaedic, and 'referenced' to Mikkie Mahon, indicating at the best 'made up one day'. Do motor bikes have 'wing mirrors'? I didn't know they had wings. If you have proper evidence (please see WP:V and WP:RS, and think it passes WP:GNG, you can try again, but I wouldn't bet on its survival chances. Or you could appeal at WP:DRV. Once again, I wouldn't place bets on success. Peridon (talk) 12:19, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply, but I'd been unavoidably absent here. Self-sourcing to establish notability seems to be frowned upon. (WP:SPS) And are usually reserved to attribute matter (quotes, opinions) to people who've already passed the threshold of notability. I mean it's hard to source whether someone is a vegetarian unless he or she says so, and so if they're facebook contains such a quote, it's usable - although, imho, most of these attributes are of little encyclopedic value and are mostly of the newsy or gossipy types (such as whose relationship with whom is on the rocks, or whether the biography subject likes the Mets or Manchester United, or the sort). So, I would think that self-published sources are not to be considered for notability for the reasons set forth in our WP:SPS...we can all create them and now we're all notable...something Warholian about that. Charles Wheaton Abbot
You must be some kind of Euronazi. I'm from the United States and we don't take crap from ANYONE.
Copyrights have to be REGISTERED. Period. No registration - no copyright. I wrote to piece and published it in a public forum (ie. Geocities) where ANYONE (including myself) can copy it and reuse it. I know Wikipedia doesn't want to run afoul of the law but this is freakn ridiculous. Charles Wheaton Abbot is a very obscure historical figure which only I care about. I see no need to rewrite what I already wrote about it. You obviously wasted whatever time and money you spend on your education as you don't have anything better to do with your pathetic life than to delete an insignificant article on Wikipedia. Please save your energy for something that matters.
When Euronazis like you stop enforcing every stupid rule in the universe for the sake of enforcing it - the world will get better and not before. You are not part of the solution. Only part of the problem. Sure, go ahead and delete me from Wikipedia. I will return under another name. John M. Gould (an alias)
- Please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ to put your sig and the datestamp on. OK. Please see Copyright registration which states "It is a common misconception to confuse copyright registration with the granting of copyright. Copyright in most countries today is automatic on "fixation" – it applies as soon as the work is fixed in some tangible medium. This standard is established internationally by the Berne Convention (1886), which most countries have signed onto since. Registration may be required by countries before joining Berne. For instance, the US required registration of copyrighted works before it signed onto the Berne Convention in 1989; at that point, registration was no longer required for works to be copyrighted in the US." I'll ask @Moonriddengirl: to comment, as she's one of our top copyright people. And she's from the USA, so far as I know. BTW it makes a change to be called a Nazi - I'm more often 'accused' of being Jewish or gay. I don't think anyone's put the two together yet... Peridon (talk) 21:57, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

why was this taken off and how can I restore this to Wikipedia, it's the one of the very few specific Prince review sites and has significant traffic. thanks@let me know. refer site to see what i mean www.princereviews.com
- Well, according to your article, it had only reviewed three albums, and being an album review site is not of itself notable. There was no sign of any significance shown. Please read WP:WEB, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources you need to prove the notability. Peridon (talk) 17:23, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

But i want to list my company on wikipedia like cnet toi etc. would you suggest me how i can do this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Check.rishabh (talk • contribs) 17:37, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Not every company gets an article here, just as not every person does. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a directory. In a directory, Microsoft can have an entry, so can Fred's Computers (established October 2014, employees 2). Fred can 'list' his company, and the directory people are quite happy about it. Here, we don't 'list' things. We have articles ABOUT companies - not BY the companies. You need to read the policies I linked on your talk page. Unless you can pass both (which CNET definitely does), there's no chance of an article. Please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS as well. When you post on a talk page, please sign at the end of your post with ~~~~ which puts your signature and the datestamp on like this: Peridon (talk) 17:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Sophy G again
Hiya - Thanks for your previous feedback - can you have a look at User:Mrbpkirby/DRAFT and see if you think this is more acceptable. I have rewritten to reflect the issues around copyright as well as bringing the elements of why I think she warrants her place on Wikipedia. B Kirby (talk) 14:15, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'll take your word for the rewrite. Sorry, but I can't see that she passes WP:BIO - she's done a lot, but it's not encyclopaedic stuff to me. I'll ask MelanieN to have a look if she can. She's not an admin, but is very good at rescuing things. @MelanieN: Peridon (talk) 17:28, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

You blocked Soarmedia (talk · contribs) based on WP:ORGNAME. I'm not entirely sure that's appropriate. Ossama Youssef
Hi ! I would like to re-post the Ossama Youssef page. Is it possible? Thanx Hyusuf1 (talk) 11:12, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- You are quite free to write about him - I'm not commenting on notability. The previous page was deleted at the request of its author, so I don't think it would be appropriate to restore it as it was. You might ask another admin or two about that. It's not a situation I've come across. I could restore it for the author, as the attribution would be there. But if I restored it against his request, or you posted the same text without attribution to him, it could cause trouble. Peridon (talk) 11:40, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Peridon
Could you please delete both of my articles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hangover_%28Salman_Khan_Song%29 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumme_Ki_Raat as im not being able to do it by my self AliDho (talk) 13:51, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- Done. Only admins can delete things (and we can still read them and restore them if appropriate on request). You did the right thing, putting G7 on. Blanking usually works too, but some new patrollers revert the blanking until it's been explained to them, and G7 puts it straight into the Category that admins look at to see what's needing to be sorted. Peridon (talk) 15:24, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
A cup of coffee for you!
Thanks for reminding me that I could have userfied that article. Sometimes I forget completely obvious things and somehow just fall into the habit of proposing ideas first and getting someone else to enact it. The move you performed was a case where obviously I could have executed the action myself. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:34, 29 October 2014 (UTC) |
why did u delete that?
--29djeg (talk) 15:43, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Because on Wikipedia you can't just post something like that. If you are posting things about a living person, they should be referenced to reliable independent sources WP:RS. This is especially important when posting something negative about a person. Any bio of a living person should comply with WP:BIO for notability and be referenced. Ordinary unreferenced bios are usually deleted after a week with a PRODBLP tag, but negative things will get deleted much sooner for legal reasons. With no indication of which person you were referring to, it could be taken to be about any of them. If this one IS notable (and not all offenders are even when convicted), it is advisable to get the referencing sorted before you post anything - otherwise it will be deleted again. You may know something - that does not count. Things have to be verifiable WP:V independently. Peridon (talk) 15:59, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Medal of Honor Bowl
I went to create Medal of Honor Bowl, but got the "A page with this title has previously been deleted." notice with "(A7: Article about an eligible subject, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)" with you as the deleting administrator. I have been working on the article in my sandbox and request that you look it over per the notice for notability before I move it. --Spshu (talk) 19:40, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I wouldn't speedy it because I know absolutely nothing about the subject. Why then did I delete the previous version? Because it consisted of
- "The Medal of Honor Bowl is a senior-eligible college football all star game played at The Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. It is played on the the second Saturday of each January (January 10, 2015). It will be televised nationally by NBC Sports. The pre-game and halftime theme is the 'Celebration of Heroes.' Medal of Honor recipients will be honored in attendance (and on the field). Information about the game can be found at MOHBowl.com."
- which tells us not a lot, and is apparently intended to drive traffic to a site. You've created what to the non-American and non-sporting me looks like an article. I'd say go for it. If anyone else disagrees, I can always put it back into your user space for another workover. Peridon (talk) 23:32, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Vistra
Hi I would like to create the page for Vistra but found that it was deleted and protected. I have gone through the deletion discussion and understood that the page was deleted due to lack of secondary sources of the company. However, I can provide some reliable sources such as government and finance institution online and would like to ask that is there anyway to recreate that page? Thanks! --Lcnwl (talk) 08:33, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Not a lot of businesses involved with "trust, fiduciary, corporate and fund services to institutional investors" are notable - by our standards. They are more back-room companies, like the makers of resistors or paint for marking roads, or the suppliers of (empty) tin cans. It's not just lack of WP:RS sources - it's not seeing an importance worthy of an encyclopaedia article. Wikipedia isn't a directory where everyone (with references) can have an article. See WP:CORP. There's no objection to you trying a draft in your user space User:Lcnwl/DRAFT, but don't do what was done previously - copying from the company site. Never a good idea, that. It's copyright for a start, and virtually always there to promote the company and so is unsuitable for use here anyway. Government things tend to be more in the way of permission to operate or other registration stuff. These don't count towards notability. Mentions by other financial institutions also are of doubtful value for notability. If they say "we get our bonds from xxx" - so what? They are not 'independent' either in being involved. As a last point, avoid saying things like "The combined group boasts a balanced and global geographic reach" - that's promotion. "The group operates in widespread territories" could pass. What the heck does the other one mean anyway? Peridon (talk) 12:40, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
