Specie di Ophrys

La tassonomia del genere Ophrys è molto complessa e tuttora in evoluzione.
La difficoltà di definire una classificazione corretta nasce dalla notevole plasticità genetica del genere e dalla estrema facilità con cui le differenti specie possono produrre ibridi, che spesso risultano fertili e a loro volta si possono ricombinare con altre entità, con sviluppo di forme intermedie.

Tradizionalmente il genere viene suddiviso in due grandi sezioni, che si distinguono per la posizione che l'insetto impollinatore assume durante la pseudocopulazione:

• sezione Pseudophrys - comprende le specie in cui l'insetto si posiziona con la testa verso l'apice del labello in modo tale che i pollinii entrino in contatto con l'addome.
• sezione Euophrys - comprende la maggior parte delle specie, nelle quali l'insetto si posiziona con la testa verso la base del labello, con conseguente adesione dei pollini alla testa.

L'aumento nel numero di specie descritte negli ultimi anni per il genere Ophrys ha pochi precedenti all'interno del regno vegetale. Un approccio filogenetico, basato su marcatori molecolari, consentirebbe una più rigorosa valutazione della validità dei criteri attualmente utilizzati nella discriminazione delle specie. I primi dati ottenuti con queste tecniche^[1] mostrano differenze genetiche molto sfumate anche tra specie morfologicamente ben distinguibili, il che lascia prevedere un drastico ridimensionamento nel numero delle specie riconosciute.
Basandosi su criteri morfologici e filogenetici Delforge ha proposto nel 2006 la seguente classificazione^[2].

Alcuni studi mettono in discussione il carattere monofiletico dei raggruppamenti proposti da Delforge e riducono a 6-8 il numero dei raggruppamenti^[3]. In una recente pubblicazione del Gruppo Italiano per la Ricerca sulle Orchidee Spontanee (GIROS) parecchie delle entità proposte da Delforge come specie vengono declassate al rango di sottospecie^[4].

Partendo da queste premesse lo schema tassonomico qui proposto è da ritenersi del tutto provvisorio ed è suscettibile di ulteriori correzioni.
Per le specie della flora italiana, quando esiste discrepanza di vedute, si è scelto di privilegiare la classificazione proposta dal GIROS.
