Silvia Gutiérrez
Senior Program Officer, Libraries, Wikimedia Foundation
About me
I became a librarian because I was a Wikipedian. Coming from a small town with an almost-always-closed public library, Wikipedia was my window to a larger world. When I had the privilege of a good library nearby, my goal was clear: sharing knowledge in the Wikimedia Projects, as others did for me.
My work
In February 2023, I joined the Wikimedia Foundation to work as the Senior Program Officer, Libraries as part of the Content Enablement Team (previously known as Culture & Heritage) which works within Community Programs larger team.
Some hopefully useful resources I've been working on:
- Vital Article Improvement Tool: A script and a tutorial video to help automate the discovery of structured improvement tasks for Vital articles. It analyzes articles to find missing citations, images, and references and helps prioritize editing work. (A future goal is to make this an on-wiki tool!).
- Why are librarians, wikibrarians? An infographic showing the reasons why librarians decide to contribute to Wikimedia and examples of what they do (¡también disponible en español
- How To #1Lib1Ref, a little page where I have gathered tricks, tools and ideas for your campaign
- TMIG database, a database with the full text of all This Month in GLAM reports from 2011 to March 2023. You can find a GoogleSheets version too! And some examples on how to use my database are in these slides.
Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
