"Mysterium tremendum et fascinans" is a Latin phrase for sacred mysterious awe and grace.

As mysterium, the numinous is "wholly other"-- entirely different from anything we experience in ordinary life. It evokes a reaction of silence. But the numinous is also a mysterium tremendum. It provokes terror because it presents itself as overwhelming power. Finally, the numinous presents itself as fascinans, as merciful and gracious. (Gregory D. Alles [1])

The phrase is commonly attributed to Rudolf Otto writing about the Numinous feeling of the divine.

However, the phrase is also known as the "Rudolf Otto virus" because it may have in fact been coined much later in a book written about Otto.

Joseph Campbell has the authentic mysterium tremendum in Oriental Mythology (1962), as does Roy A. Rappaport in Ritual & Religion in the Making of Humanity (1999).

In The Sacred & the Profane and in Myths, Dreams & Mysteries (both 1957), Mircea Eliade adds his own coinage, mysterium fascinans, to Otto's mysterium tremendum. In view of this, it seems likely that it was Eliade who coined the phrase mysterium tremendum et fascinans in some other of his many works.

Søren Kierkegaard in "Fear and Trembling" (1843, original Danish title: Frygt og Bæven under the pseudonym Johannes de Silentio, meaning roughly John the Silent in English) introduces the "knight of faith" who relinquishes everything, and also trusts that he will receive it all back. An important theme is the conflict between theology and philosophy. According to Kierkegaard, mid-19th-century secular philosophers laughed at faith and saw no mystery in the story of Abraham while professing to find Hegel's philosophy exceedingly difficult.

The word "Trembling" is a reference to a line from Philippians 2:12, "...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling."

The essence of the Christian secret is the mysterium tremendum. Derrida focuses on the tremendum, and reads Patocka under the pressure of Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling. Trembling lies at the heart of ethical responsibility and moral reason, and we tremble in the face of a dreaded (even if desired) secret. "As different as dread, fear, anxiety, terror, panic or anguish remain from one another," Derrida explains, "they have already begun in trembling, and what has provoked them continues, or threatens to continue, to make us tremble. Most often we neither know what is coming nor see its origin; it therefore remains a secret." (45) Trembling is a physical affect that seizes the body and the soul, but "(o)ne doesn't know why one trembles." (46) Derrida compares the symptom of trembling with that of tears, which becomes part of the title and an important theme of Caputo's work. Trembling, like weeping, concerns a response whose cause is deeply mysterious yet exceedingly intimate, "the cause closest to our body. " (47) From the body, Derrida shifts registers to God, and remarks that the cause of the trembling in the mysterium tremendum is "the gift of infinite love... We fear and tremble before the inaccessible secret of a God who decides for us although we remain responsible, that is, free to decide, to work, to assume our life and our death." (48)

Ryan Philpott, actor, presenter and director, was born in Essex 31.12.1973. He joined The National Youth Theatre as a teenager and went on to study drama at LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Art). He has appeared in numerous plays and musicals including the National tour of Blood Brothers. His TV credits include Kenny Morris EastEnders (July 2007), Matthew Thyme in ITV series Rosemary and Thyme, London's Burning, Coupling and Murder in Mind. Ryan is a popular and versatile presenter at many events and exhibitions, using his talents as comedian, actor and singer. With friend and fellow actor David Keeling, Ryan performs as part of the comedy duo Twangling Jack. He is also a director on National Youth Theatre Summer Courses.

The D.H. Christie is a primary school in Coleraine. It was founded in 1967, and in the present day has more than 400 pupils. All ranging from the age of 7-11. The Primary 7 (Age 11) group must sit the assessment test the 11 Plus, every year. The school was founded by the late Mrs D.H. Christie. The school has a great reputation, and it's current headmistress is Mrs Jennifer Campbell.

It was founded by the surrealist poet and social scientist Michel Leiris and by the anthropologist Jean Jamin in 1986. The journal is published by the Musée du Quai Branly (Museum of Non-Occidental Arts), Paris, France.

Gradhiva is one of the major journals of anthropology in Europe, with a deep interest in the relations between history of art, esthetics, anthropology and the history of social sciences. It always includes a very high quality iconography.

This decision of the enlarged board of appeal of the EPO was subsequently overturned in the later decision G9/93. It is therefore of historical interest, rather than reflecting current legal practice. Under G1/84 it was permissible for a patent proprietor to oppose his own European patent (since patents can be opposed by "any person" - Art 99(1) EPC).

However this is no longer the case according to G9/93. A patent proprieter is explicitly barred from opposing his own patent. Such a procedure would have been useful for example to enable centralised post grant amendment of a European patent, at a lower cost than amendment of each nationally validated European patent.

Future legal developments

The present lack of a centralised procedure for the amendment of granted European patents is being addressed in the EPC 2000, which is due to come into force in December 2007.

James Brown (Born 19th February 1990 in Sydney Australia) is a semi professional Australian football player. Currently under scholarship with the mens AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) football team in Canberra, Australia, Brown has represented Australia several times in youth teams, including the Joeys (Australian U17 team) and the Australian Youth Olympic team. Brown first caught the attention of Australian football scouts when playing for the QAS (Queensland Academy of Sport) in an Australian insitute tournament against other state football institutes. Scoring in the final of the tournament to lift QAS to victory, he put in solid displays as a striker. He then was selected to represent Australia in the 10th International Youth Football in Niigata Tournament and in the 2007 Youth Olympics. A utility player, able to play in various positions, Brown is a prospect for the future for Australian football and based on previous performances may represent his country for years to come.

Christen Ellrich is a Florida actress with several credits under her belt. Trained in martial arts and staff-fighting, she often incorporates stunt work in her roles. She began as a PA on the set of "Permanent Vacation" starring Frank Harper and David Carradine, and managed to snag a role. As of this writing, she finished filming the role of the demon Karah in a theatrical film based on the hit video game Devil May Cry for Capcom. The film is currently in post-production. She has appeared on TLC's show "99 Most Amazing" as well as the Discovery Channel's hit crime-show "Skeleton Stories". Stephen Verges, American painter. Stephen Verges is an American painter born in Washington D.C. He is the son of Stephen Verges & Susan Snodgrass. Stephen Verges is from is a third generation Spanish American, his family has worked for the King of Spain since the end of the crusades offering the French Knight, Stephen Verges I, with a title of Baron as well as a small town in Gerona, Spain, known today as Verges. Stephen Verges's mother, Susan Snodgrass is a celebrated doll artist with a permanent piece articulated in the Louvre, she received International attention, sharing the creative mind with her son Stephen Verges. Susan Snodgrass was married to Benjamin Sonnenberg Jr, who's father was Benjamin Sonnenberg, the public relations pioneer & famous arts philanthropist. During this marriage Verges was introduced to an artist by the name of Red Grooms, who by the artists crazy antics of avant garde works & lifestyle would assist Verges to produce art in any medium. Verges produced a number of pieces in the late eighties. He was taught by Lucille Beards, a patron & ballet teacher to Louise Nevelson, about the spectrum of reality versus the illusions of art. He worked as a technical assistant for the Human Rights Band, the Bad Brains, the Cromags during a break from art. The aftermath of September 11, 2001, encouraged him to volunteer for a job with the military where he served abroad. In 2004 he expressed interest to some people he served overseas with to paint some images of overseas happenings. Stephen Verges proved an unconventional national as well as international success, by continuing his series that was heralded by Ambassador Jawad of the Afghanistan Embassy in Washington DC. He was invited to exhibit his works of art at the Afghanistan Embassy by the political advisor & author of "Shadow over Afghanistan", Mr Fazel Fazel, for the Afghanistan Independence Day celebration marking their independence succeeding from Brittish colony rule. In two thousand eight he was invited to showcase "Tarin Kowt", along with a group of national & international veterans at the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum for a six month exhibit that runs from May twenty fourth, two thousand eight up until October, two thousand eight, showcasing work alongside the Los Angeles Area Veterans Arts Alliance, The American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress, a hands on exhibit featuring art & artifacts of Tim Obrien's book "The Things They Carried", & his debut that displayed with four military veterans from the United States & Britain titled "Ancient Lands Modern Battles" which also includes Josiah Harlan. Verges offering Harlan, the first American in Afghanistan, his first museum show by displaying sketches, unpublished manuscripts, poetry & the passport of the real life Quaker turned King who was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's, "The Man Who Would Be King" as well as limn depiction of Harlan by Sir Sean Connery in John Huston's cinematic gem "The Man Who Be King".

Tobin Siebers is an important literary and cultural critic whose work is as prolific as it is diverse. He has written on literature and superstition, the ethics of literary criticism, moral philosophy and narrative form, the politics of identity, and on disability studies. He is currently V. L. Parrington Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan and director of the Department of Comparative Literature and of the Global Ethnic Literatures Seminar. He received his PhD from the Johns Hopkins University in 1980. Siebers has taught at Columbia University and twice been a visiting scholar at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, France.

Athletes for Hope is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization founded by 12 prominent athletes of exemplary character who share a deep commitment to philanthropy. The organization educates and encourages professional athletes about ways to get involved in the community, connects them with charitable organizations and events, and recognizes these efforts in order to inspire and pass the passion of philanthropy onto others.

1. History
In 2005, Andre Agassi, Lance Armstrong, Mia Hamm and the leaders of their charitable foundations began discussing the formation of an organization to support athletes who share their desire to help others. After eighteen months of work, they founded Athletes for Hope in 2006. In April 2007 all 12 Founding Athletes:Andre Agassi, Muhammad Ali, Lance Armstrong, Warrick Dunn, Jeff Gordon, Mia Hamm, Tony Hawk, Andrea Jaeger, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mario Lemieux, Alonzo Mourning, and Cal Ripken, Jr publicly launched Athletes for Hope in an effort to inspire and help other athletes to get involved in philanthropy as well as inspire millions of non-athletes to volunteer and to support community and charitable organizations throughout the world. The 12 founding athletes have to-date raised more than half a billion dollars for charity and they founded Athletes for Hope as a way to connect thousands of athletes with businesses and individuals to support community and charitable causes.

2. Launch
In April 2007, Athletes for Hope was launched on live network television with an appearance on Good Morning America featuring eight of the 12 Founding Athletes and four additional segments on ESPN. With the Athletes for Hope launch as the centerpiece of a week about athlete philanthropy, Good Morning America also ran programs about Andre Agassi’s College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas and Muhammad Ali’s Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Within the first few days following the launch, over 100 professional athletes and charities reached out to the organization to get involved.

3. Misson and Purpose
Athletes for Hope’s mission is to educate, encourage and assist athletes in their efforts to contribute to community and charitable causes, to increase public awareness of those efforts, and to inspire others to do the same.

Its purpose is three-fold: First, Athletes for Hope works to educate athletes about the opportunity to contribute to community and charitable causes. Athletes, with the proper information and tools, can make a tremendous positive impact on the charitable community. By connecting with professional athletes and teaching them about their philanthropic options, Athletes for Hope equips them with the tools to effectively give back to their community, educate their peers, and inspire others to support charitable causes.

Second, Athletes for Hope connects athletes with charities, corporations, and individuals to create a movement for positive change. Athletes for Hope believes that many athletes have strong philanthropic objectives, yet do not know how to identify and get involved with organizations that best suit those objectives; likewise, many charities do not know how to utilize an athlete's time efficiently to best serve their objectives. Athletes for Hope matches athletes' philanthropic goals with the needs of charities. Athletes for Hope also works with businesses that want enhance their philanthropic efforts by partnering with the professional athlete community. The organization helps corporations design and implement effective charitable activities and programs that involve athletes.

Finally, Athletes for Hope recognizes the hard work and contributions that professional athletes make in the charitable world and further increases public awareness of these efforts. There is an undeniable bond between athletes and their fans, and Athletes for Hope builds upon this connection to inspire millions of people to follow the lead of athletes to become a part of the philanthropic movement. Through recognition, Athletes for Hope celebrates the significant impact athletes can have on the lives of others, shows its gratitude for their dedication to making a difference, increases the visibility of the athletes, charities and businesses involved, and inspires others to become part of the philanthropic movement.

4. Passing the Passion
Athlete for Hope’s tagline “Pass the Passion” represents its 12 Founding Athletes’ desire to pass their passion for philanthropy onto others in the sports community. It is also a call to action to the general public to find their passion, get active in their local communities, and inspire others to do the same. Each of the Founding Athletes wears an AFH Tag, bearing the Athletes for Hope logo and tagline. Each AFH Tag represents support not only for all 12 Founding Athletes and the work they do, but also for philanthropy in general. Genworth Financial, and their charitable giving arm Genworth Foundation, have stated that they believe it takes just one to effect change in the world - one hammer, one nail, one phone call, one step. And by joining forces with Athletes for Hope, they can extend their philanthropic reach through one organization to make a difference in the lives of millions of people.

Matthew loughran was imprisoned on the 31st of July 2006 for money laundering the some of £300,000 (three hundred thousand pounds). He was raided while boarding a chartered aircraft at miami airport while on his way way to Zurich. It is believed that his plan was to deposit the illegally obtained funds in an off shore account.

People who previously were associated with Mr Loughran are in shock at his cunning ability to live dual lives. It is also believed that at the same time as conducting illegal business he was also a student at a London based sixth form college where he sat exams for A-levels in Media, Business and Art. A previous school friend of Mr Loughran, Ivan Borovich said "I had absolutely no idea of his actions or dealings." Later Ivan was arrested and detained in Peckham young offenders institution for Class A drug abuse and deadly assault on a police officer in a local Pizza Express. Mr Loughran is also believed to be involved with the Russian Mafia through a relationship with Anastasia Solovieva.

New reports from the Jackson and Davis detective agency found that he had already formulated the deal to purchase a villa in Marbella for £750,000. The origin of these funds is currently under investigation along with a series of inquiries relating to a bucket shop which he is claimed to have established. This is according to his previous business partner James Bunaince who is currently imprisoned in the Ji Jiang provence, China for fraud. His appeal is currently in discussion and the courts decision will be publicly disclaimed later this year.

He was released on the 25th of March 2007 after an appeal. It is now believed that due to a lack of substantial evidence there was no possibility to take the case further.

OC-TV is the official television channel for Ocean City High School in Ocean City, NJ USA. Founded in 2004, it's purpose is to inform and entertain. The most notable program regularly produced is "The Morning Wave", also branded as "TMW". It airs weekly and is rebroadcast to communities such as Upper Township (on UT-TV) & Ocean City (on Access 2 Ocean City). "TMW" was piloted on UT-TV for a brief stint in the late fall of 2006 until the early spring of 2007. The show features high production values coupled with an up-beat style of delivery while maintaining the standard news format. Students are responsible for all phases of production from concept to on air live delivery. Its technical crew members have worked on motion picture sets and gone on to expand their skills as young journalists/directors at universities and colleges throughout America.

Other endeavors the cast/crew have been tasked with include the production of "Mayor's Forum", "Access2OC", and state-wide public service announcements (PSAs) regarding traffic and pedestrian safety. The 30 second PSA spots have aired in rest stops along major routes and interstate roads throughout NJ, on local network television, and cable television (as well as local access/gov't access channels). OC-TV has a partnership with the SJTSA (Southern New Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance) for such PSA work. In 2006, the production students of OC-TV at OCHS were featured on Comcast NewsMakers, a television round-table discussion style program (on CN8).

Behind the creation of OC-TV and its members are its full-time professional staff. The students are led by executive producer & instructor Greg Wheeldon (a former Warner Bros. animator who came to OC-TV with extensive background & experience in the film/education industries) and Steven Trauger (television facility engineer and broadcast designer whose production credits range the gamut from broadcast & network television to regional & campaign advertising).

Although he didn't have any experience in advertising, he managed to land a job at Menard, Inc. Menards is the largest employer in the Eau Claire area. Dan plans to work his way up the ladder beginning with his current position as an advertising technician. His friends are all very proud of Dan and surprised that he got a job, considering his small brain size. Dan's friends include Eric Rosenquist, Garett Pankratz, Neil Weiler, Zach Paul, Mike Hennessey, Danny Weinfurter Bryan Bahnub, among a few less important figures. Dan has veered off of his religious upbringing becoming an atheist at the age of twelve. He currently updates and maintains a very popular Facebook page in all of his spare time. He also says that he enjoys doing "number three" in the bathroom when not with his girlfriend, Megan. His favorite television show is The Office, which is famous for the phrase, "That's what she said!" Dan has never missed an opportunity to utter these words in conversation.

K-R.O.K.(born Rodney Gilcreast on May 11, 1986) is a Rap/Alternative artist with musical influence of old school hip hop. K-R.O.K. stands for Kings Respect Other Kings. K-R.O.K. became known globally with hits such as "The Game's Over", "Fuck You", and "Poser".
