Ah, looks like this is indeed a direct copy of a scientific paper: http://stmjournals.com/tech/index.php?journal=JoWREM&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=1205 I can't see anything besides the abstract due to the paywall, but I think it's pretty clear that it's the same paper.
