STBot

edit
The following discussion is an archived debate. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

Operator: ST47

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Jobs will be manually entered and the page list will be checked, the bot would then proceed on it's own while I prepare the next job.

Programming Language(s): uses Wikipedia:AWB but I'm working on the pywikipedia framework to see if there is anything else I can do.

Function Summary: Will change categories due to Wikipedia:CFD, mostly in substed userbox and other large categories.

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): 3-4 jobs 2-3 times daily

Edit rate requested: I really have no idea, whatever you all think is ok

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N

Function Details: Change or remove categories from pages in the main, template, user namespaces according to Wikipedia:CFD/W. I would change any templates and move the category text, the bot would then go through the remainder of the category and make the changes.

  • The edit rate seems awfully fast to me (1 per 2 seconds): it sometimes takes longer than that to save an edit. Are you sure that wouldn't be a server hog? --ais523 12:17, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
  • i don't know, that's usually how long it takes for me to save one evit and load the next page in AWB, but I could always throttle it. I'm really not sure, so whatever you think, I can do ST47Talk 18:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Quick note the Plywikipedia frame is not realy suitable for Wikipedia:CFD as some of the framework tends to mess up userpages see here for a page that the framework had trouble with. that is also why User:Cydebot run by User:Cyde stopped working on the CFD untill all the userspace categories are taken care of. no, I'd use Wikipedia:AWB for that, i'm just looking through the python stuff to see where else i can help ST47Talk 18:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can I have a couple diffs of stuff you'd like to do w/ the bot, obviously pywikipedia has some issues w/ some stuff (sometimes Tawkerbot is just running AWB.. much faster setup) - it's all a mix. In either case diffs would be very nice -- Tawker 18:47, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure!

are a few I just did using firefox, but that's what the AWB would do, it knows not to duplicate categories ST47Talk 19:02, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
NOTE: if you look in my contribs, you'll see a few removals I'm making using WP:AWB in its manual mode, once I finish Category:RS 500 songs Ill do Category:RS 500 albums ST47Talk 19:06, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
ok, that's done, and I'm not sitting here for the next one(2,026 edits), so I'll sit back and wait I guess :) ST47Talk 21:31, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looks solid to me, watch the edit rate and you should be good to go (lemme ping about a botflag when I get back from class) -- Tawker 20:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you approving this for trial or speedily approving it? I'm not sure you were clear. Please clarify. -- RM 13:20, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
