Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layers leading to a vast amount of single-article categories. After merging, the decade categories for churches and religious buildings will typically contain some 30 articles, which is a decent amount. The tree with Catholic churches seems very incomplete, but that is a different problem than this nomination aims to address (unless there is possibly a consensus to merge the medieval Catholic churches further to just churches). Consistency with other "Books about" categories. The closely related Category:Children's books about pirates, Category:Non-fiction books about piracy, Category:Novels about pirates all follow this format.
