  • It is impossible to have such an impression because after the merge all murders in YYYY, across the globe, are still in Category:YYYY murders. The only impression one will get is that we have more articles about 18th/19th century murders in Europe than in other continents, and that is just a fact. Ille-sur-Tet in itself does not even have a category for people from there, and its population is 5,000. The category is small and unlikely to grow. Indonesia doesn't have a comprehensive scheme of "Retailing in [Specific Indonesian Island]" categories for this to be a part of, and the one thing filed here isn't uniquely Javanese and has been left in the Indonesia-level parent category anyway, so we don't need this just for one thing. Nominator's rationale: Unclear why we would need a borough-level category for historians from Brooklyn when we don't even have the parent Category:Historians from New York City yet, or sibling categories for any other borough of New York City. The rule for New York City categorization is that the citywide category has to come first, and can be subdivided by borough when it's become large enough to warrant that -- but jumping directly to a borough-level category, when a city-level category doesn't even exist yet, isn't how things are done.   • Oppose. I am getting there. The occupations categories need building out for New York City. I am starting with Brooklyn but then moving to all of the other bureaus (ie Manhattan, Bronx, etc). I can only do so much sorting at once. There are plenty of historians in Brooklyn, Manhattan, etc. to more than pass the minimum of small cat for each bureau. I haven't even sorted 5% of the Brooklyn people yet and look at how many historians are already in that category. Please give me time to work on this before taking these to CFD. I am going through people alphabetically and sorting for the most part. It will take me time to catch all of the people pertinent to a given occupation. I am anticipating the Brooklyn sorting project to take about a month to complete, and then I am moving onto Manhattan. 4meter4 (talk) 16:18, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We already have an occupations by bureau category structure so its inappropriate to merge the two. The answer is to populate the categories not merge or delete. Please don't make WP:POINTY noms when editors are actively working to build out the category structure. It takes time to sort make things flow properly. @Marcocapelle I strongly oppose this for factual/historical inaccuracy reasons. Brooklyn was an independent city and not part of NYC from 1636 through 1898. There were historians in Brooklyn in the 18th and 19th centuries who were technically not from New York City. This is one fundamental reason why we have the Category:People from Brooklyn by occupation as a structure. Classifying anyone pre-20th century from Brooklyn means not putting them under the Category:People from New York City.4meter4 (talk) 21:37, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is just a truth in advertising nomination to better reflect the actual contents. The new name would also match both Category:Ice hockey players in the United States by team and Category:Baseball players in Massachusetts by team.
