Propose renaming Category:2012 phenomenon believers to Category:People associated with the 2012 phenomenon

Nominator's rationale: Believers is an odd choice of word here. I'm open to ideas, but my first (albeit lame) idea is to capture something like People associated with events in the 21st century ^SMason_Garrison 22:22, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it seems to be defining for a few other people in that category, e.g. it seems to be part of the notability for Argüelles, Calleman, McKenna and Pinchbeck. Deleting this would just have them be categorized with the other 2012 phenomena articles rather than specifically people. Support rename but I also don't care. Propose deleting Category:People from Tantanoola, South Australia (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Nominator's rationale: People-from category for a small town (pop. 255 total) with only one person in it. As always, every town that exists does not automatically get one of these the moment one person from that town has an article to file in it -- it would be fine if there were numerous people from that town with Wikipedia articles, but is not necessary for just one person. Nominator's rationale: I don't think that being featured on "Most-wanted Iraqi playing cards" or "Hamas most wanted playing cards" is a defining feature for individuals being featured. It seems more like a product, akin to baseball cards. I think that these are better served as lists. @Smasongarrison Thanks! To be honest, that section is a bit self-serving at present. Those 4 examples mentioned below WP:LISTIFY were just the first ones that came to mind, because I was involved with all of them. Regardless, I hope they make the point well, and I will add other precedents later. (Feel free to suggest some!)

Comment: I created the Category:Most-wanted Iraqi playing cards two years ago. It was actually deleted as as a result of a previous discussion 12 years ago. Keep given that as a category the purpose is essentially the equivalent of "Leader in Hamas" but without the problems that would arise with such a category name in subjectivity deciding who is a leader and who is not. Related to the Nominator's rationale above, there is an important distinction between these cards and baseball cards. Every baseball player in a given league (say Major League Baseball) has a baseball card, so identifying them as being in a baseball card category would be duplicative of, say, Category:Major League Baseball players. However, the same is not true of Category:Hamas most wanted playing cards. There are thousands of members of Hamas, and only 54 in this category, so the category provides additional information.Coining (talk) 01:10, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just Delete Textbook WP:TOPTEN. There is no chance that 52/54 people coincidentally made the cut and that also the number of playing cards. Rename per main article 1500th anniversary of Kiev plus WP:KIEV/WP:KYIV. I've worked on this article. It was a 1982 Soviet-era event / publicity/propaganda stunt through and through, with dodgy science to back up the idea that the 60th anniversary of the Soviet Union just so happened to coincide with the so-called "1500th anniversary" of Kiev/Kyiv. Although the event unintentionally also resulted in discussions about Ukrainian and Russian history and identity (and some mayors of Kyiv and Ukrainian nationalists have now come to regard the pseudohistorical date "482" as a sacred year for the "foundation of Kyiv"), these things were glossed over at the time by official statements of the Soviet event organisers. It's the 1982 event that matters in its historical-cultural Soviet context. The event was conceived as promoting Russo-Ukrainian unity (on Moscow's terms) and the spelling Kiev also reflects that, while the spelling Kyiv is strongly associated with the Ukrainian independence era and does not fit the context of 1982.
