Help:IPA/Saidi Arabic (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

I'm listing this here because although it's a redirect as I write it keeps getting turned into a help page. I declined a speedy delete request last October because it didn't meet any speedy-deletion criterion, but the reason given for deletion ("it is copied from Egyptian Arabic and Hejazi Arabic which are separate dialects with separate phonologies") may be correct, though it is not identical to the Hijazi page. I can't comment on the accuracy or otherwise of the guidance as I have little familiarity with Saidi Arabic (and my Hijazi is pretty rusty these days). I note that, like many similar pages, it has no references whatsoever. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:44, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neither, Robert McClenon – as above, I listed it here because although it was a redirect when I started this, it keeps getting turned into a help page (slow edit war) and I couldn't guarantee that wouldn't happen again during an RfD discussion. It would be helpful if this could be kept open long enough for a consensus to be reached, so a premature procedural close would be about the worst possible outcome; I do see your point, though. Oh, and Twinkle didn't stop me from creating this here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:20, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers, If there's an edit war, then you should request page protection. El C, can you look into this? I'm inclined to agree with Robert McClenon; this should go to RfD, and then an appropriate level of page protection should be implemented for 7 days to allow the RfD to play out. (Pinging El C because they is responsive to their pings.) Doug Mehus T·C 01:39, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
