  • Why are these names confusing and/or duplicative? Looking at all the nominations you've made here today all seem to be perfectly valid redirects from moves that we would normally keep to maintain attribution history and avoid breaking links from old revisions and from outside the projects. 1. The attribution history won't break - It moves with the image.
2. Since when are external links to File: pages a concern? (If the images are 'free' they should be linked from Commons. If Non-free, then they should not really be linked from an external site.) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:32, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
1. The attribution history is not maintained at the original ___location when the page is moved, so the redirect becomes the only link to where the history now resides.
2. External links to pages are always our concern, regardless of what the namespace is. It's called being a good net citizen, avoiding link rot where it is not needed. The license of the file is irrelevant, reusers may also be entitled to fair use and of course the image may be linked to without displaying it (AIUI this is always legal).
3. What benefits will deleting these images redirects bring? If two pages are named in similar ways then link them with hatnotes.

Consensus is needed for all pages moves that are, or are likely to be, controversial. I'm asking whether you have discussed anywhere the moves you have made here, or the rationale behind them. I'm not asserting that you needed consensus, although personally I would have sought it before making a large number of moves, rather I'm asking whether you did or did not. If you did then reading that discussion will enable me to see what the arguments for and against the moves and removal of redirects were. Whomever closes this discussion will also be able to take that consensus into account. If you did not, then the arguments presented here will be all that myself, others commenting and the person closing the discussion, have to go on to determine whether to keep or delete these redirects.
