Premeditated Chaos

Status:     Open

I am revising this request in a somewhat unusual manner, as ARandomName123 found a WorldCat listing for Nova and it appears to be held in the National Library of Scotland. NLS is able to provide scans of documents, but the cost in GPB is somewhat prohibitive, since there is a £16.80 minimum charge even for one scan. As it happens, I have an active RSX request for an issue of another difficult-to-find magazine, Time Out, which is also held at the NLS. I am wondering if the pilot would be willing to pay for the NLS to make scans of these articles for me, since two scans will cost the same as one. [Edited again to add a third one, since three will also cost the same as one!]

  • Emin, Tracey (June 2000). "Who: Tracey Emin, Juergen Teller, What: Alexander McQueen Collection Autumn/Winter 2000, Where: Gainsborough Film Studios, London N1". Nova (UK magazine) revival.
  • V, Lorna (September 24 1997–October 1, 1997). "All Hail McQueen". Time Out no. 1414.
  • Hume, M. (August 1996). "Scissorhands". Harpers and Queen no. 82.

The Nova issue contains a review of McQueen's Eshu collection, which will be useful for the article's reception section. I would like to see the full text of Emin's review, as it appears to be fairly negative based on the few quotes I've seen, and it would help to provide balanced coverage of the collection.

The Time Out interview is impossible to find online in its unedited form. The version available online in the book Time Out Interviews has been edited down and is missing the content I need. It will be useful for my current draft, User:Premeditated Chaos/Banshee, and apparently contains discussion of several other McQueen collections, so I will cite it wherever possible.

The Harpers and Queen interview is also not available online or in the WMF library insofar as I can tell.

I plan on bringing the Bridge article in English Wikipedia to Good article then Featured article status. The Bridge article is a level 3 vital article, hence very important. I have already purchased several books with my own funds including: Bridges: A History of the World's Most Spectacular Spans, An Encyclopaedia of World Bridges, Bridges: The science and art of the world's most inspiring structures, and Bridges of the World. But the requested book is over $140 US. The requested book has a hardcover and kindle edition; The hardcover is essential for an FA nomination, because page numbers are required for citations, and many Kindle books do not show page numbers (I do not know if this Kindle book does or not, but I know the hardcover shows page numbers). If you look at my user page you will see that I have promoted several articles to FA status, including the pi level-3 vital article. I am retired, and have no use for this book in my personal life, so if you are wondering if I'm trying to get a free book for my hobby or job, the answer is "no". This museum catalogue by the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris seems to be one of the most detailed descriptions of the minutia of Darger's art, includes essays by a number of art historians and Darger scholars, and is about the closest thing to a catalogue raisonné which exists for him. It is a little pricey (museum catalogues are never cheap), but I feel this would be an extremely useful source to include to hopefully help this article get to FA-level. Tamzin and I have been sitting on our article on Out of the Blue for a long time – we got it to B-class, and it's so close to GA, but there aren't enough sources to adequately summarize the second half of the book. We've both been avoiding putting our own money on what is probably not gonna be an enjoyable read, so at B-class it has sat. Even if I'm not quite ready to break out my wallet, I'll bite the bullet of a probably not-great book to get this over the line, so, coming here to request a copy from RESUP. Thanks in advance :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 06:12, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Link to request on RX: Out of scope.

I am currently working on Nikolay Chernyshevsky in my sandbox and will need this book considering that it's a comprehensive biography of Chernyshevsky's philosophy. WorldCat suggests that it is available in unis but I need the access of the entire book. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 14:56, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Vacant0: I'm having some difficulty finding where this could be purchased. Have you found a link? RAdimer-WMF (talk) 22:55, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, I sadly have not. WorldCat suggests that it is available in universities. Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 10:45, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If the book cannot be bought, which I hope won't be a problem for brining the article to FAC considering that I have access to all other sources, could I possibly request a different book? Cheers, Vacant0 (talkcontribs) 10:50, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Vacant0: Definitely! What book? RAdimer-WMF (talk) 01:02, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is for the Joseph Lister article. I have about 90 documents and about 6 books, but there is nothing that covers this particular viewpoint. Its a modern interpretation as an academic monograph. Its a illustration of the evolution of the germ theory of disease and the folk that were being trained up to tackle it. There is a whole bundle on Lister. It complements Lawrence and Dixies, germ theory evolution thesis and they reference it heavily. It was very last book I was going to buy, but its quite expensive for the full hardback. I would take a softback, ideally. If was the hardback, I could use it and send it to the next editor. I would be handy for notes, but not that critical. There will be mountain of stuff get through in this book but plenty for other editors who want to pick it up and run with it. scope_creepTalk 21:11, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RAdimer-WMF, I've sent you an email. Thanks for approving it. That is fantastic. It will be the last book I'll need on Lister. Last of the big 5 biographies on him that I didn't have. scope_creepTalk 06:22, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This would be to improve the page for the outsider artist and novelist Henry Darger and to split off pages on his individual works In The Realms of the Unreal and History of My Life. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 05:09, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello RAdimer-WMF. Intending on using this as part of a rewrite and expansion of Wikipedia's coverage of Art Deco, working from the template established with Art Deco architecture of New York City and working backwards to focus on Art Deco in the United States (some may be germane to the broader articles too, but I'm not sure at this point and that's a bigger project than I'm expecting to take on now!) The book also has a comprehensive illustrated A-Z listing of significant designers totaling four hundred entries, which should be useful at expanding Wikipedia's coverage of those individuals who might not have significant biographies. If this request is granted, I'll use it to improve the article for Jehovah's Witnesses and several related child articles in Category:Jehovah's Witnesses. I've already purchased sources for use in this topic area and I'm dedicated to using them. It'd be nice to not have to save up for this book myself. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:30, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Clovermoss, thanks for your request, would you prefer a physical or electronic/pdf copy? RAdimer-WMF (talk) 00:22, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@RAdimer-WMF: I'd prefer physical if there isn't much of a price difference. It's much easier for me to take notes and work from it that way. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 01:29, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like access to Elaine Bradtke's PhD thesis Molly Dancing and the Seven Champions, primarily for the article Molly dance but also probably articles on related British folk traditions (e.g. Plough Monday, Morris dance). It's available on ProQuest but does not seem to be accessible either through WP:TWL or my local library's ProQuest subscription. I would be happy with either a digital or print copy – digital is slightly cheaper. Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 10:57, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Since you've edited a lot at the Arabic Wikipedia but not much at the German-language Wikipedia, do you want the Arabic version, rather than German? WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:05, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @WhatamIdoing Thanks, but I actually need both versions, which is why there isn't just one. I've contributed more to the frwiki rather than arwiki, since I'm comfortable with the languages. I've also made a request here too. Regards Riad Salih (talk) 20:02, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have developed a number of articles on British aircraft carrier operations in Norway during World War II to a high standard (including the FAs Operation Sportpalast, Operation Tungsten, Operation Mascot and Operation Goodwood (naval) and A-class article Operation Leader). I have also worked on a number of articles on the war at sea in the North Atlantic more broadly, with Operation Berlin (Atlantic) and Operation Teardrop being developed to FA standard. This is an important recent book on this topic by an expert author that I would use to develop articles on some of the other British aircraft carrier operations in Norway and the North Atlantic during the war. The book has been well reviewed by subject matter experts (e.g. [2] [3]), so is a high quality source. Thank you for considering this request. Nick-D (talk) 07:31, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
