Suspected sockpuppets

edit

This is a very obvious case of an editor "Logging out to make problematic edits as an IP address" (from the first bulletpoint of Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry) and concerns Template:Hidden image. This template is intended to hide "offensive" images, which any editor with any significant degree of involvement in the Wikipedia ecosystem would realise would be incredibly controversial thing to do (MS Sakib has this experience, with 87,000 cross wiki edits). At 19:04 the IP created Draft:Template:Hidden image and spent the next 15 minutes tweaking it and writing a documentation subpage, finishing editing at 19:19. At 19:27 MS Sakib logs into their account and performs a copy paste move of the template to Template:Hidden image since IP's can't create pages in template space. They then log out of their account again and show up as an IP at 19:28 to create the template talk page, using the exact same format they use on all other talk pages they created [1] [2]. A minute later at 19:29 they realise that they can't create the template doccumentation page as an IP, so they log back into their account to create this page [3]. They then log back out of their account again and at 19:33 begin putting this template to use as an IP, they add it to various Islam related articles to hide depictions of Mohammed [4] [5], they use it to hide images in the article "LGBT in Islam" [6] and they add instructions on how to use it to a help page [7]. This is not a case of an editor forgetting to log in, they intentionally logged out of their account multiple times during this to perform edits that they new would land them in trouble. 192.76.8.77 (talk) 22:27, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the global contributions of the IP address this isn't an issue restricted to the English Wikipedia, they've done this on multiple projects. 192.76.8.77 (talk) 22:32, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(  Peanut gallery comment) - I moved the page to the proper namespace per the SPER, but I did not leave it in place with the answered parameter, as the template doesnt work in non-talkspaces. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 23:27, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I was very surprised when the Sockpuppet investigations began. However, I am explaining the above facts. Since I created the Hidden Image Template, you got that IP match with me. I am a regular contributor in Bengali Wikipedia. I also keep a close eye on the bn:উইকিপিডিয়া:আলোচনাসভা (discussion page/Village pump). A few days ago, an IP created "bn:টেমপ্লেট:লুকানো চিত্র" (template:hidden image) in the Bengali Wikipedia and proposed in the Village pump to use it in the Bengali Wikipedia. Having this template on some other wikis and having this template on an en-wiki draft page, I also created it in English. Moreover, in the beginning I supported it in Bengali Wikipedia, but later I withdrew support. I also decided to add removal tag to this template on the English wiki, but someone added this tag before me. Besides, I have no bias towards LGBT and sexuality. I have created several articles on LGBT and transgender in Bengali wiki. ≈ MS Sakib  «TalK» 09:15, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As Yahya points out below, this is actually Lazy-restless's IP. @আফতাবুজ্জামান: and @NahidSultan: can tell the details about Lazy-restless. ≈ MS Sakib  «TalK» 15:45, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
