Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Tanzania

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Tanzania. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Tanzania|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Tanzania. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Africa.

Language seems promotional; sources are mostly about the CEO or are not WP:ORGIND. 🫎 moose 💬 18:30, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's not promotional. This is probably the most important company in Tanzania. Stop discriminating against African companies. No one would make a discussion about a European or American company of this size and importance. --Afus199620 (talk) 19:53, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You have failed to demonstrate notability through the use of independent secondary sources and the article is also promotional in nature as it contains a lot of information that is not encyclopedic GeekBurst (talk) 20:13, 1 September 2025 (UTC)#[reply]
There are more than enough press articles about this company to show notability. Its just often mixed up with the founder in the articles. I also changed language sounding to positive. Why is it not encyclopedic?--Afus199620 (talk) 20:17, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Press articles do not make a business notable - Most press articles are paid for by the PR team of the business in question to promote themselves. You need independent secondary sources that are NOT press releases / articles.
Please see the relevant section on the Notability guidelines for information on what citations are acceptable when establishing notability of a business. GeekBurst (talk) 20:23, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already said that most media articles mix up the person/family and the company. If we can't even take media articles as sources, nearly no African company could be included in the Wikipedia. What exactly do you want here? Bakhresa Group and nearly every entrance in the List of companies of Tanzania would have to be deleted. I also could look for more sources in Swahili language.--Afus199620 (talk) 20:30, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please review the guidelines for independent sources per my previous advise, it explains which articles in the media are acceptable for establishing notability and which are entirely promotional and therefore unsuitable. Unfortunately, if you are unable to provide independent citations, the article will continue to fail notability. There's no issues with you including foreign language articles if that's all that are available, it's reasonable to expect a substantial amount of relevant sources for this article will be non-english. GeekBurst (talk) 20:33, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that Tanzania is not a country with a large business press like the US for example. It's problematic to apply unreasonable standards. Rules also should be applied within a certain context. This company has already more English-language coverage that most of the companies in the List of companies of Tanzania. Most of the businesses there completely fail your expectations. Should we delete all these articles now? --Afus199620 (talk) 20:49, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is not the place to debate the validity of notability requirements. There are options other than newspaper articles to help establish notability. Unfortunately, if you are unable to establish notability within the provided guidelines, your article will continue to fail notability and ultimately be deleted. GeekBurst (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy delete: Clearly promotional. You do not need to give detailed insights into everything a company does, you only list notable information and basic background that is non promotional. As it stands this article is wholly promotional and the sources referenced do nothing to support any notability claims. A companies size alone does not make it notable unless you can provide evidence that demonstrates its not run of the milk - These would need to be secondary sources that are independent of the company and not press releases or promotional articles. GeekBurst (talk) 20:10, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is not promotional. I am the author and I have no relation to this company. Calm down!--Afus199620 (talk) 20:21, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
An article can be promotional without being created by an undisclosed paid editor, particularly if it contains significant amounts of information that isn't of encyclopedic value or there is inadequate independent secondary resources to establish notability. Please refer to Wikipedia:Notability for guidance on establishing notability. I would also recommend you review WP:Promotional for guidance on how to clean up this article. GeekBurst (talk) 20:27, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This company has more English-media coverage than nearly every other company from Tanzania. This is also not a promotion. Not deleting this is about basic logic and fairness. I already wrote at least 100 company articles in two language versions of Wikipedia. I can distinguish notable from irrelevant companies. This is one of the few billion dollar businesses from East Africa and obviously deserves to have a Wikipedia article.--Afus199620 (talk) 20:36, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
