I asked Belovedfreak to consider stepping up to clerkship here, and I'm very pleased to say that I got an affirmative response. :D I would imagine we've all seen Belovedfreak at SCV. Any issues? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:18, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Dpmuk (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

I was active quite a lot a couple of months ago on clearing the {{copypaste}} backlog (now largely done) and moving onto this (where I have occasionally contributed) is the next logical step. Unfortunately getting my PhD finished has intervened somewhat and so my contribution rate on wikipedia had dropped quite a lot and is likely to remain low for the next few months but I would hope to be able to help out a bit even over the next few months as I'm bound to get bored of writing my thesis and want a distraction. Moonriddengirl has approached me about it so listing here. Dpmuk (talk) 17:17, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

I support Dpmuk; I believe that he knows what he's doing. :) While here, I'd also like to propose and support User:MER-C. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:41, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Minimac (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

I began working with the copyright related stuff on Wikipedia since May 2010. First of all, I worked on a CCI investigation, particularly this one, where I received a barnstar for my hard work over there. I took a small break but came back shortly in September to help clear up the copypaste backlog (There were about 600 of them at first, and now there're less than 75). Nowadays I am active in WP:SCV, an area which I've been working on since March 2011. This shows that I've worked very hard in (and enjoyed) the copyright area and I hope the community trusts me as a potential copyright clerk. Minima© (talk) 16:55, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Minimac. :) I'm familiar with your work on CCIs and have been looking into the work you've been doing at SCV. Pretty impressive. I would support your assistance on this page as well, but since I'm not that familiar with how you'd handle matters here would encourage you to start slow and ask questions if you encounter any situations with which you're unsure. Since I haven't interacted with you as much as the current clerks, I'd like to recommend a kind of period of evaluation, if other copyright admins and clerks are on board with it, just to make sure that the different tasks here don't cause confusion. Would you be okay with that? (Clarifying: I'm not suggesting that you become a trainee clerk here; I feel confident enough in what I've seen of your work that I don't think that's needed. I'm just indicating that I think a few weeks of review would be good; if there are issues that occur during those, then a trainee period might be helpful, just until you learn the local ropes.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:40, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Minimac, I have seen you do a lot of and great work. I do have a few constructive tips from what I have noticed if you would be open to that. I think you would make a great clerk.--NortyNort (Holla) 16:17, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
I'd support this based on the work I've seen you do recently at SCV. I have looked at a few over the weeks and not noticed any problems.--BelovedFreak 12:47, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Response to Mrg: Okay, I would be fine with that, although I don't quite understand what you mean by a "period of evaluation". Minima© (talk) 16:03, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
What I mean is this: we have basically two levels of clerkship: full clerkship and trainee clerkship. Clerkship is kind of a major responsibility here because you'd be making decisions that have traditionally been limited to admins. Not that admins are necessarily born with a complete grasp of copyright. :D But they've been vetted by the community at large and clerks here have not. Trainee clerkship is a first step just to make sure that clerks are full on with policies and approaches to copyright, but I'm not proposing a trainee period at this point. Instead, I'd like to go ahead and promote you, but look in on your work over the next couple of weeks to see if everything is going all right. If it is not, I'd then ask you to take the trainee period. And this is all only because the requirements of this board are a bit different than those at SCV, in my opinion. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:20, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, I totally understand what you mean now. Minima© (talk) 14:15, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Good. On the same page, then. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:16, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Voceditenore (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

Voceditenore knows our copyright procedures and has already proved invaluable in working on the IEP CCI. (For that matter, I'm convinced that the only difference between Voceditenore and an admin is that Voceditenore doesn't want to be an admin. I'd give her my full and enthusiastic support in a minute if she ran.) If she is willing to help out at CP, where there is such desperate need, I'm absolutely delighted. I've added her to the list in the full belief that this will be entirely uncontroversial and take all responsibility for that if it proves I'm wrong. I'm off to notify a few active folks in case. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:31, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I asked Darkwind to consider helping out at CP, and Darkwind has stepped in. Darkwind was the one who noticed that closing should be done by clearks, so I'm nominating now. You can see contributions at 2012 October 4 and 2012 October 5. I reviewed some of these at User_talk:Darkwind#An_experiment, which will also explain my rationale for asking. I asked User:Justlettersandnumbers if he would be interested in clerking. I don't even remember now when he first popped up in my radar, but he's been there for some time. He routinely looks out for copyright issues in articles, cleans and reports them appropriately, and asks when he isn't sure what to do. I think he has tons of "clue", which in my opinion is perhaps the most important trait in a Wikimedian. :) I think he could be a great help here and hope that others will share that feeling. Pinging just a few active in the area, in case they have input: User:MER-C, User:Wizardman, User:Sphilbrick, User:Dpmuk, User:Ymblanter. Of course, others are welcome to weigh in. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

I've had a quick look and while I think they still have some learning to do about our processes, how to detect problems etc. I think they have enough clue to become a clerk. Dpmuk (talk) 15:37, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Crow (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

As most or all of us probably know, Crow has been working on copyright diligently for some time. I was approached by User:Sphilbrick about the idea of making him a copyright clerk in September and suggested he might find the transition less stressful if he closed out a few more listings at SCV. He's continued going gangbusters. I've been spot-checking him occasionally, and I am highly impressed with his knowledge and his demeanor. He cleans what he can, checks what he isn't sure about, and instructs contributors along the way. (Pretty much all any of us can do. :)) He's a tremendous asset to this work. I hope others will agree that he's ready for clerkship. I've already pinged Sphilbrick. User:Justlettersandnumbers, User:MER-C, User:Wizardman, User:Sphilbrick, User:Dpmuk, User:Ymblanter, any thoughts? Of course, others are welcome to weigh in. :) Since I'm unsure if the user5 template will ping him, I'll add, "Hi, User:Crow!" --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:00, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Definitely support this, an excellent idea. The stuff he's done at WP:SCV has been little short of heroic in scale. He's painstaking and polite too, and would be a great asset here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:55, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Pkbwcgs (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

I have plenty of CSD G12 and CSD F9 deletion nominations at User:Pkbwcgs/CSD log (it may take time to load as it is huge) and I know copyright very well to become a clerk at WP:CP. I have done plenty of work around copyright. I would like to solve copyright problems at WP:CP. Pkbwcgs (talk) 15:39, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, User:Pkbwcgs. :) I'm sorry for the delay in response. This area isn't as active as it sometimes has been. I tried looking for contributions you've made to WP:CP pages, but I didn't find anything. I see the WP:FFD contribs, but I'm afraid they don't really prepare one for working here, where cleanup is sometimes really nuanced and may involve looking for backwards copyvios and assessing rewrites to see if material is separated from the original enough. I'm really happy to see you doing work like at Narmada Canal and very happy that you're warning people appropriately. I don't feel comfortable supporting this myself without some evidence of time spent really engaging in this area of work, but I'd be happy to reconsider in the future if you can show instances where you've addressed and help work through close paraphrasing, helped contributors to understand copyright or navigate the permissions process in OTRS and suchlike. We used to suggest people work a while at Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations to get the hang of it, but, alas, that software went down long ago. You might want to try just leaving some comments on pages here - especially difficult cases - and perhaps even trying your hand at proposing rewrites via proper template process to help demonstrate your ability to assess and address issues. If you show dedication and skill in that kind of thing, it would be much easier to assess your contributions. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 03:28, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
@Moonriddengirl: There are plenty of G12s at User:Pkbwcgs/CSD log. Pkbwcgs (talk) 08:07, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
Pkbwcgs, G12s are not what we do here. The ability to identify and tag a blatant copypaste is not really a good indicator of your success in this area. The recommendations I've made above would probably help with that. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:37, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
@Moonriddengirl: I have requested copyvio-revdels before as well. Pkbwcgs (talk) 14:40, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

I was recently made aware of the backlog at WP:CP and it was suggested that I put myself forward for clerkship. I believe I could help chip away at this backlog from time to time, and I have experience removing copyrighted material and requesting redaction under RD1. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 15:13, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Support While I've been away from CP for some time I haven't been away from copyright work. Most of my time has been spent working with a new copy patrol tool. Relatively recently, I stumbled across the category for RD1 requests. A number of editors contribute, some seem better than others, but Thine Antique Pen contributes quite a few, and my recollection is that every one of them has been both proper and properly formed, so I have a lot of confidence in their judgment.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:34, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
Support My observations match Sphilbrick's, and we can definitely use a hand. :) Currently active admins in this area - User:Diannaa, User:Hut 8.5, User:Justlettersandnumbers - any concerns? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 03:06, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

EchidnaLives (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)

Hello, I'm EchidnaLives, and I would like to volunteer to help out as a trainee copyright clerk. I know this area has a relatively low amount of people working in it, but I have some experience in the area of copyright (both on and off Wikipedia), making me believe I could be useful here. I came across these areas some time ago, and at first, was a bit confused, including requesting revdel when there was no need to and removing content thinking it was a copyvio, when it was probably a mirror/fork. However, I have realised these mistakes, reverted them and have watched what others have done, as well as reading all of the related pages, and now believe I am able to detect situations like these and do the right thing. Additionally, I have some experience in files, as I have worked at Files for Upload, an area which very few people know of, and this experience could be helpful in CCI's related to files. I look forward to your feedback! Thanks, echidnaLives - talk - edits 03:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC).

@EchidnaLives Hi, how long have you edited in the copyright area? Could you give an example of a CCI you helped clear? While I appreciate that you want to help out in the area, I don't think you've done too much work and it may be better for you to apply at a later date. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:04, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
@Moneytrees I have done a bit of work on Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/J Bar, but you are correct about me not doing too much work on CCIs or Copyright problems, I just believed that some miscellaneous work I've done related to copyright could help me be effective in the area (a bit of copypatrol, G12s, miscellaneous removals). If you or anyone else believes that more work would be required, I am happy to accept that and will work on getting more experience. Thanks, echidnaLives - talk - edits 03:13, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
