a gas station in the United States

Usage notes

edit
  • Colloquially, an item specifically referred to as coming from a gas station, most often food, can imply that it is of poor or suspect quality. (For example, gas station sushi is proverbial in the 21st century for provoking doubt about its food safety, and gas station knives are cheap, gaudy pocketknives sometimes sold at gas stations.)
