Il DC Extended Universe è un media franchise composto da una serie di film di supereroi basati sui personaggi dei fumetti DC Comics. Similmente all'universo DC, i film appartenenti a questo franchise condividono l'ambientazione e alcuni personaggi, nonché alcuni elementi della trama che fanno da filo conduttore tra di essi.

Data la varietà di film da cui è composto il franchise, ci sono più attori protagonisti: Henry Cavill interpreta Clark Kent / Superman in L'uomo d'acciaio (2013) e in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016); Ben Affleck e Gal Gadot interpretano rispettivamente Bruce Wayne / Batman e Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Ezra Miller interpreterà Barry Allen / Flash in The Flash (2018), Jason Momoa interpreterà Arthur Curry / Aquaman in Aquaman (2018) e Ray Fisher interpreterà Victor Stone / Cyborg in Cyborg (2020); questi tre personaggi debutteranno in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Tutti gli attori riprenderanno poi i loro ruoli in Justice League (2017) e in Justice League 2 (2019).

Gli antagonisti principali di quest'universo sono invece Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) introdotto in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice]], Joker (Jared Leto) ed Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) introdotti in Suicide Squad e Darkseid che è stato solo citato per il momento,ma che sarà l'antagonista principale della Justice League in questa "prima fase" in corso.
