Le quaranta porte (The Forty Rules of Love) è un romanzo della scrittrice turca Elif Shafak.[1][2][3] L’autrice ha dichiarato che la decisione di scriverlo fu influenzata dai suoi studi in Gender and Women’s Studies (Studi di genere e sulle donne).[4]

Il libro è stato pubblicato nel marzo 2009.[5] È incentrato sulla figura del poeta mistico persiano Maulana Jalal-Ud-Din, conosciuto come Rumi, e sul suo maestro e amico Shams Tabrizi.[6][7]
L’opera narra come Shams abbia trasformato un sapiente in un sufi (mistico) attraverso l’esperienza dell’amore.[8] Il romanzo ha riscosso un grande successo editoriale, vendendo oltre 750.000 copie tra Turchia e Francia.[9]
