Graph incorrectly reproduced?

edit

It looks like the legend in the "training example" graphic in the Kernel Trick Section was reproduced from the corresponding graphic in the "Kernel Trick" WIKI page, but something was left out. The legend in the latter is longer and correct, while the legend on this page is shorter and wrong. I do not know how to fix it and it is pretty minor... but it is irritating... Definition of the bias

edit

Just about every article/textbook I have seen defines the bias with $w^T\cdot x + b$, but throughout this article the convention $w^T\cdot x - b$ is used instead. Any reason why? 70.184.68.54 (talk) 23:45, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I came here looking for an answer to this :)
I had a quick look, and I am not certain, but I believe it stems from the definition of a hyperplane, $a_1x_1, \ldots, a_nx_n = b$. Mudthomas (talk) 13:54, 13 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request to add tutorial reference

edit

Hi,

I wrote a tutorial on Support Vector Machines ages ago that used to be referenced on this page. However, the link it referred to went down and then the reference was removed. It's a well-cited paper, so would it please be possible to add it back?

The link is https://tristanfletcher.co.uk/assets/documents/svm_explained_paper.pdf

Kind regards,

We shouldn't add personal websites as links, see WP:EL. MrOllie (talk) 16:41, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
