Soulvision is an international song competition where countries battle it out to bring the trophy home. Any country in Europe can take part and any other notable countries invited by the SBC - Soul Broadcast Committee Located in Ireland.
For Edition 04, 37 Countries are in competition to take home the trophy, this has been the lowest participation count ever and the first year to reach below 40 countries, this was due to a massive funding issue with smaller participating countries who could not afford the expenses, this impacted the following four countries, San Marino, Moldova, Bulgaria and Czechia, however the story changes with Lithuania who withdrew due to poor results and in a statement from the broadcaster, "We are trying to make significant changes to our selection process to be more fitting for the contest"
Controversy
editSaudi Arabia was meant to take part in edition 04 after internally selecting Bashar Murad to represent them again after a top 5 finish all the way back in 01 in Dublin, however calls for Saudi Arabia to withdraw were pressured by the Arab League after Morocco had dropped out of the contest, in a statement by the NBC an agreement was made for Saudi Arabia to drop out of the contest however the SBC had stepped in and had banned certain countries from taking part in the next 3 editions this being, Morocco, Somalia, Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine and Sudan. Turkey also faced pressure however stood ground and were set to participate in St. Louis.
Soul Season
editSoul season was introduced by the SBC, it is the events that take place before the main week of the contest, this includes pre-party's, soulclub and the gold carpet (we didnt ripoff eurovision trust), estimated cost from the NBC was $30 million just to set these facilities up, an additional $120 million was spent on building the stage, advertisement and other expensses, this is the most expensive contest beating out London by $95 million.
