Subject fails to meet the WP:GNG because a lack of WP:SIGCOV. Let'srun (talk) 14:40, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

Delete Redirect to 1928 Summer Olympics. I can't find any meaningful coverage, and based on his record (he DNFed at the one Olympic event he participated in) I would be surprised if there is anything substantial to be found, but happy to re-eval vote if someone can turn up more.Zzz plant (talk) 17:49, 12 July 2025 (UTC)- No issues with a redirect, although Switzerland at the 1928 Summer Olympics might be a better target. Thoughts? Let'srun (talk) 18:29, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
- Good idea, I think that's probably a better target. Zzz plant (talk) 21:13, 12 July 2025 (UTC)

- @Let'srun have you searched e-newspaperarchives.ch? I haven't gotten very far into the results and I've already found a short article [1] that says someone by this name won a team national championship in 1943, on a team that had (by that point) won the national championship ten times. Toadspike [Talk] 19:15, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I hadn't searched there yet, but from what I can tell via a brief glance there are just some mentions of the name, and I couldn't tie any of them definitively to the Olympian. Feel free to ping again if you can find anything else. Let'srun (talk) 00:59, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. All 19 results for this person's name at e-newspaperarchives.ch [2] are this guy. Nearly all of them report him winning some championship or other and he was often named "Meister aller Klassen"/"champion de toutes catégories" [3][4][5], presumably the equivalent of the modern "Best Lifter". He was unequivocally described as Swiss national champion here [6]. These results span 1928–1945, which means he was an elite athlete at the national level for nearly twenty years. (Another article from 1950(!) [7] lists him on his club's B-team.) He apparently also held a world record [8] (unclear which) and a Swiss record [9][10][11] (210 pounds in "zweiarmigen Reissen"; the first link covers the first national weightlifting championship in 1928, where Eichholzer set this record and qualified for the Olympics). Eichholzer's team, Adler, then went on to win the national championship at least nineteen times [12] by the time he was last mentioned in 1950.
- Sorry for the lengthy post; I think this is one of those cases where we don't have paragraphs upon paragraphs of sports features, simply because that wasn't the style of journalism back then, but this guy is clearly notable for his accomplishments at the national level. I won't ping Let'srun, since they've already looked at these, but @Zzz plant is this enough to change your mind about his record? Toadspike [Talk] 08:52, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep - Yep, changing vote per Toadspike; looks like subject is notable for having a prolonged, national record/reputation in Switzerland (not necessarily his Olympic credit). Zzz plant (talk) 10:48, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- I disagree that notability is inherited here. Let'srun (talk) 17:09, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Weak Keep, per Toadspike. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:16, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
