Description
This is the logo owned by Baird Brothers Sawmill, Inc. for Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods Page Info-box. This is a logo meant to help readers identify the organization Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods and its wikipedia page.. Further details: This is the logo for Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods
The image is used to identify the brand Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods Page Info-box. This is a logo meant to help readers identify the organization Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods and its wikipedia page., a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the brand, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the brand, and illustrate the nature of the brand in a way that words alone could not convey.
Because it is a non-free logo, there is no free representation. However, there is no replacement that is capable of letting the reader know that this is the wikipedia page that they should associate with the brand. Also it would misrepresent the corporation if the image is not used.
Not doneTBaird15, non-free content may only be used in articles, and cannot be used in other name spaces such as drafts. You will need to wait until the article is published, and you may then return here and request that the image be uploaded. TimothyJosephWood13:53, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Not done - This one is much more subjective than many requests, but no one else has acted on it in over two months, and frankly the video linked to is of pretty poor quality, to the point where it is difficult to use as a means of identifying the subject of the article. Anyone else is more than welcome to try to get a good screen shot of one of the moments when a camera flash goes off that wouldn't be ruined by motion blur, but I really don't see that the comparatively marginal improvement for the article is really worth the considerable amount of time it would most likely take to do that well. Description: Symbol used for the act of measurement in quantum gates.

Not done - The requested logo appears to be essentially the same as the logo currently on the article, with the only variation being whether the text is in English. Both logos appear to be in use on the official website, and there does not appear to be a compelling reason to prefer one over the other when we regularly use non-English logos for organizations with strong links to non-English languages. TimothyJosephWood13:49, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Comment: I have serious reservations about the notability of this game. All current references are to the apparent official website, and it seems likely that a non-free image would run a substantial risk of being deleted along with the article. Please review our guidelines on notability, and improve the article to better demonstrate that the subject meets those standards. TimothyJosephWood13:00, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Comment:The article exclusively uses references from MobyGame. MobyGame is on the WP:VG/RS 'Unreliable Sources' list. The article needs some serious work doing on it's references. - X201 (talk) 15:03, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
Done - I'm still not 100% confident that this is clearly notable, but the VGRS search does return quite a few okay looking results, at least for such an old game. Too many for me to take it to AfD with any strong conviction. The file has been uploaded and added to the article. Please see File:Armed and Delirious Video Game Cover Art.jpg. Description: This image illustrates a selfie of Clifford Galea, picture taken August 15th 2017.
Article To Be Used On/Reason For Upload: Clifford Galea, because there's currently no images in the article.
Not done - Assuming we could accept a Facebook declaration of copyright (and it's not exactly clear how that may conflict with Facebook's terms of use), the subject does not currently have an article, and seems unlikely to meet our standards for notability. The image therefore would fall outside the scope of Wikimedia Commons per guidance at Commons:SELFIE.
If the subject is shown to meet notability standards, you may request that they upload a previously unpublished image to Commons and indicate that they release it under and appropriate license according the the applicable legal conditions. TimothyJosephWood15:31, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

The image includes both a copyright notice and an apparent claim to be under a creative commons license. These are not compatible statements, even if we could conclusively accept a "release" via a facebook post.
Comment:Timothyjosephwood, the copyright notice is not incompatible with the Creative Commons licence. A CC-licensed image is usually copyrighted and you're free to include a copyright notice if you wish. However, the licence is unacceptable since it's a non-commercial (NC) licence. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:51, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Dhalpale: The file on commons needs additional information. Because it is a faithful reproduction of a work, the copyright is not "yours" to license. You need to provide an additional rationale for why the image is available for public use. If this information is not provided, the image is liable to be deleted. TimothyJosephWood12:46, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Closed There is... a lot to unpack here:
There is no "release to the public under fair use", that's just not "a thing".
A photograph of a 2D work requires demonstration that the original 2D work itself is appropriately licensed, or in the public ___domain. I can't demonstrate that, I have no information on it available to me. That's something you have to provide.
File upload request declined. The file is copyrighted and not free. The Nevada National Guard is not the US Air Force, and photos produced by the Nevada National Guard are not in the public ___domain. --AntiCompositeNumber (Ring me)23:38, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Hey Cjgauthier. This... is actually pretty complicated. First, it's hard to definitely say that no free alternative exists. Admittedly, I've looked for about twenty minutes now and haven't found anything. But the real problem comes in whether a free alternative can be created. Now, being dead, obviously brand new images can't be created, but getting an existing image appropriately licensed is another way of "creating" a free alternative.
There are quite a lot of images of this person available online, and behind each of these is, at least in principle, a breathing person somewhere who could be contacted to release the rights to the photo under a suitable license for use on Wikipedia. This is particularly problematic in cases of images of people, since, although not all images may be of equal quality, they are all basically equal in their ability to illustrate the subject for encyclopedic purposes.
I'm afraid your first step here is probably to reach out by email to the person's estate, or a similar representative, and request that they follow the instructions at WP:CONSENT and release a photo so that it may be used on the person's article. Folks are usually pretty receptive to these types of requests, since presumably they have an interest in helping us improve the article. TimothyJosephWood13:13, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Comment: - cjgauthier - Thanks Timothyjosephwood for the thorough explanation, which is sensible and useful. I'll write to Dorothy Dunnett's estate asking their permission. I appreciate the link to the instructions as well. Cjgauthier (talk)

Comment: I'm not sure if we usually include separate pictures of logos in video game articles. Normally, there would be a picture of the cover art which usually includes the logo. --User:Stefan2Stefan2 (talk) 13:10, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Comment: I'm not sure if we usually include separate pictures of logos in video game articles. Normally, there would be a picture of the cover art which usually includes the logo. For what it's worth, this is a {{PD-textlogo}}, not a {{non-free logo}}. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:07, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
The logo is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution.
The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing Menlo College, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey.
Because it is a non-free logo, there is almost certainly no free representation. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.

Comment: - This is a comparatively minor point, but one that pretty much sinks the fair use rationale. If the article is about "Miss Iraq", then it should be Miss Iraq. If the article is about "Iraqi beauty pageants," that is, about a general topic and not a specific organization, then that's fine, but it means that the logo fails WP:NFCC #8, since the omission of a specific logo, on an article about a general category of thing would not be detrimental to an encyclopedic understanding. TimothyJosephWood12:32, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Comment: - The current link does not appear to be working. Further, the link is to a drop box ___location and does not serve to establish that whatever is purportedly linked to is in current use as the organization's logo. Further, the requesting user has been blocked as a promotional account. They may request a name change in accordance with our username policies and amend the request with the necessary information.
