Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat

Shortcut:
WM:RFH
Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

Meta:Requests for comment/Bureaucrat removal of permissions

I've opened this RfC to ask if Meta-Wiki bureaucrats should be able to continue removing advanced permissions such as administrator and or bureaucrat. —MarcoAurelio 16:30, 17 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Main Page in Hindi

moved from SN by --MF-W 22:02, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

For Hindi language "Main Page" is going to "मुखपृष्ठ". Where it is showing Marathi language which uses same script. Earlier we used to use the work "मुख्य पृष्ठ" for Main Page but now it is "मुखपृष्ठ" everywhere. On wikidata, Wikimedia Commons it is corrected. I want it should be corrected here too. Since Hindi and Marathi language both are sharing same name for Main Page and if we click on Main Page then it will go to "मुखपृष्ठ" for both languages. So, these things should be done here:

For more understating you can follow d:Wikidata:मुखपृष्ठ or commons:मुखपृष्ठ.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 18:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

You are talking about meta-wiki? Right? Ruslik (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I am talking about meta-wiki.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 09:46, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
@संजीव कुमार: Which page at meta are you wishing to be edited? Normally such edits are not undertaken by stewards but by meta administrators and the means to get a change made is to edit the talk page of the page needing changing, explicitly state the change required and add the template {{edit protected}} as an alert. Probably worthwhile trying that approach first.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:50, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I wrote the steps explicitly. And writing again:

मुखपृष्ठ is the Marathi and Hindi name for Main Page.

This is same as it is on wikidata. I was not aware, where this thing should be posted so, I posted it here.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 13:26, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm gonna leave this to meta sysop who can understand Hindi and Marathi language. If noone from among meta sysop can handle this, I will action this 2-6 days from now.--AldNonymousBicara? 13:32, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I just notice this now those 2 pages have same name with same spelling, is it fine just adding (mr)/(hi) as suffix to differentiate?--AldNonymousBicara? 12:09, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

┌─────────────────────────────┘
I also asked you to add suffix (hi)/(mr). but we have to add it for both languages. And Main Page should be like "indistinguible" page which have 2 links. Or, if you can change the move permission of those pages, then I can do this job.☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 19:12, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mjbmr

Hey, this user was blocked indefinitely in 28 March 2011 because of "Abusing multiple accounts: CU-block -using socks to impersonate fawiki admin" and after three years and this promise this user got unblocked in 25 July 2014 [1]. But He used User:Zack90 when (s)he was blocked (Special:Diff/3276089) and voted for Mjbmr adminship after unblock (Special:PermaLink/12061240) which is obviously violation of sockpuppet policy (User:Zack90 is sock of Mjbmr w:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Mjbmr/Archive). Amir (talk) 16:39, 27 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

So you suggest us to block a sock based on enwiki's inconclusive CU results? That would mean we act like enwiki and block the user per DUCK-test. That's something we will hardly do here, especially without any hard evidence. -Barras talk 12:08, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Furthermore, blocks are usually used as preventative measurement and not punitive as it would most like be here the case. -Barras talk 12:13, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Probably we can do a xwiki Checkuser to find more evidences if it is true. Also @Mjbmr: for his statement. By the way, this user may be a meatpuppet (this still violates the sock policy).--GZWDer (talk) 15:26, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request for CentralNotice banner for Libertad de panorama en Europa en 2015

Hi, we have been discussing the Freedom of Panorama in Europe in 2015 campaign in the Wikipedia in Spanish and there is wide support for starting the campaign immediately instead of waiting until July 2nd, as planned for other projects.

This is the campaign:

We would like to rotate the two banners shown in this thread, but if that is not feasible for technical or practical reasons, there is a slight preference for using the one with white lettering over a dark background. Please let me know if more information or input is needed. --XanaG (talk) 20:03, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

If you intend just to limit just the banner to eswiki, maybe es:MediaWiki:Sitenotice would be better. It cannot be geolocalized though. Perhaps if other projects would like to complaint about this EP proposal, we can arrange a global banner, with translations. @Jalexander: what do you think? Best regards. —MarcoAurelio 13:21, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
As far as I understood, language communities were about to protest individually. The German language community's signature campaign for instance already ended by now, its CN banner has been visible to all users with German as their interface language. Vogone (talk) 13:55, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi MarcoAurelio and Vogone, thanks for the comments. At first I was also considering using a site notice in es.wikipedia, but then I noticed the German campaign in central notice and I thought that was the appropriate way to procceed. We have not discussed geolocation earlier (I have just brought up the subject), but I think it is best at this stage to target the campaign to those who can take some sort of direct action, since those banners are purposefully intrusive. --XanaG (talk) 18:55, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

—MarcoAurelio 07:48, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

@MarcoAurelio:, since there were no objections in eswiki to using es:MediaWiki:Sitenotice we decided to go that way until the main campaign begins. Thanks for all the advice! --XanaG (talk) 22:15, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
