Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|___domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|___domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.

You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.

Shirxd@global

@Shirxd: Are you trying to usurp this username? If so, please notify the target user on their home wiki about this request and move it into the correct section. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:12, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: No, I just want the username in any other wiki except the Hebrew one to be in English. A matter of visability and convenience. Shirxd (talk) 21:18, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: Sorry, that's not possible, as renames are now global, meaning they take place on all Wikimedia wikis. It is not possible for a global account to have a local account of a different username, if that is what you were requesting.
If you own the account "שיר", then you may simply use that to edit that one wiki specifically (Depending on your local wiki's policy on using multiple accounts, you may or may not be allowed to do this; you will usually need to declare that you operate both accounts). You can also change your signature on that one wiki, which will not affect your username, but will affect your displayed name when editing talk pages. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:24, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if so (and I'm late for Selichot), I'd like to change the name globally. The name "שיר" is not taken. Shirxd (talk) 21:29, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: Sorry, I'm afraid "שיר" is taken, see sulutil:שיר; unless I'm seeing the characters incorrectly, it's the same name that you were trying to be renamed to. It has one edit on the Hebrew Wikipedia. That's why I asked initially. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:32, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka:, thanks for notifying me. If so, I would like to usurp the username שיר. should i move the discussion to the right section? Shirxd (talk) 22:46, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: I've moved it for you. It looks like we can usurp this username. Please notify the target username on their home wiki talk page about this request, and allow up to a month for a response from them. If they consent, or if they don't say anything after the one-month grace period, we can complete your request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:50, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I've left a massege in the userws talk page. If there is no answer (what probably will happen), should I just leave a massege right here? Shirxd (talk) 23:04, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: If there is no answer after a month, a global renamer who is available will process your request when they see it. That being said, this request is   On hold until November 1, 2016. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 23:27, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, looks like there were no edits in 1,5 years. [2] Am I to make the 1st edit on that user's talk page? --AndreAnto (talk) 02:49, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JustAnIng@global

Hello @JustAnIng: that account is eligible for usurpation. Please leave it a note on the frwiki talk page asking if the user objects to being renamed. Since they haven't logged in for years, I doubt they will respond, and if they haven't responded after a week then I can perform the rename. Regards, – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:01, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cd1207@global

Thanks for preparing the notification. Since they haven't logged in for years, I'll action this request after a week if they don't respond. – Ajraddatz (talk) 03:00, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Exotic Girl: Please notify the target user on their home wiki talk page about this request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 00:01, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: Help me, please! Is there the target user home wiki talk page there or not: Stvori Suradnik:Naturalist? If it is what is the form of this request? --Exotic Girl (talk) 12:19, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Exotic Girl: That is their home wiki userpage. You will want their talk page, found here. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:23, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: Check, please: is it done right? Razgovor sa suradnikom:Naturalist --Exotic Girl (talk) 19:05, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Exotic Girl: Please notify them about this request (you should link to this request), not about whether or not they'll be editing in the future.
Also, pings don't work unless you sign your comment. If you forget to sign, your ping won't go through (see mw:Notifications/Feature_requirements#User_Mention) —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:20, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: I see. But I have a question: why I can not just take the name of the user if the name is abandoned (the user has logged 4.5 years ago (!), he has made only three minimum changes the same day, and since then no longer appear (!)?

What are the rules of usurpation in Wikipedia? Could you give me a link? --Exotic Girl (talk) 19:40, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Exotic Girl, how hard is it for you to just notify the user about this request and then wait one month for usurpation? All other usurpation requests processed on Wikimedia have involved notifying the target user and then giving them some time to respond. You're delaying your own request by not notifying the user. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:50, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: OK... Is it right now? --Exotic Girl (talk) 20:13, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dragonese Nordic@global

The "Nordic" account has 33 edits, and cannot be usurped. Please let us know if you want to have it renamed to something else. Savhñ 09:51, 31 October 2016 (UTC)+[reply]
I was told by K6ka, via enwiki it could be usurped. I would like the new name to be en:User:Nightfury, instead. Posting as master account. Nordic Nightfury (talk) 09:55, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Note, as well, that you can use your master account on all projects. Savhñ 09:56, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
"Nightfury" also has edited. Savhñ 09:57, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Could it be usurped, despite having one edit, that I can see? Nordic Nightfury (talk) 09:58, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If he actively accepts usurpation, yes. Otherwise, unfortunately not. Savhñ 09:59, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Will inform now. Nordic Nightfury (talk) 09:59, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And done. Nordic Nightfury (talk) 10:01, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Savh: The one edit they made was to their userpage, and they haven't edited in nearly a decade. I think we can perform this one even if they don't respond, as only significant edits will preclude usurpation. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:43, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrusramone@global

You have to change your password using Special:ChangePassword. Your username is public in any case, so renaming it has no influence on the issue you mention. Savhñ 11:14, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging CyrusRamone. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:48, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyrusramone: Have you read and understood what Savh has said above? Please answer the question instead of going somewhere else. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:44, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Osama Ismail BOT@global

@Avocato: I've just completed the rename, apparently there was a similar username by the name Osamaismail, but I do not believe "Osama Ismail" will easily be confused with that. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 00:04, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Metagalaxy1@global

@Metagalaxy1: You've just been renamed a week ago. Please note that username changes take up valuable server resources and are not something to treat lightly. Are you sure about this request?
If you are, then please notify the target user on their home wiki talk page about this request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:12, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
