Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Artists

Please add MUSIC-related discussions to Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Music, not here.

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Artists (in the visual arts only). It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Artists|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Artists (in the visual arts only). For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Benny Nemer (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Article is borderline notable and may not quite pass WP:BIO. However, the individual in question has requested deletion via a now-declined speedy deletion which I will quote;

"I am Benny Nemer, the subject of this page.

This page was originally created over a decade ago by someone I do not know, who created pages about Canadian LGBTQ artists. While I was originally quite flattered by this gesture, no one ever updated this page, and its information became quickly out of date. Believing I could not update it myself, I asked friends to update it with information from my website.

But as time goes by, the page is consistently out of date. No one cares for it. And because of this, it disseminates outdated information about me, which reappears elsewhere on the internet, including when a Google search is made about me.

I really wish some art historian or art student would take up the work of keeping this page current, but no one does. I have a minor career. I don't think a wikipedia page is really necessary for me.

I am therefore humbly requesting that this page be deleted and that people find out about me through other, more current sources, like my artist website, www.nemer.be

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours,

Benny"

Thus, I am requesting deletion per WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE CoconutOctopus talk 17:14, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been tagged for years now, and I see no improvement. Coverage in the news is minimal--one little article from a Chicago-based affiliate about an exhibition in South Bend years ago, that's really all I found. There's a few local items about him having threatened his school, but none of this adds up to notability. Drmies (talk) 16:39, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Clemens de Lisle (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

There does not appear to be any significant coverage nor any coverage of her as an architect either. I can't review the book source but it is only one source and assuming that the article accurately represents her coverage then it falls below SIGCOV. It almost feels like an A7 given we have an article on an architect that fails to mention any architectural wok. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:47, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In a month's time (20th September), there's an edit-a-thon being planned for NZ Women in Architecture, and one of the targeted articles for improvement is this one.
It's probably best to withdraw this AFD until after the edit-a-thon takes place, in case anything of value is uncovered then? Nil🥝 04:28, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there is any plan to improve the page at the event (it mentions the article as an example of an existing article but says 'Our focus will be on enriching and creating pages related to Merle Greenwood, Dorothy Wills, Mary Dorothy Edwards, Mary Hay, Marjorie Penty and Nancy Northcroft.'), but if I am willing to delay/withdraw the AfD if someone does plan on taking a look at in within the near future. Traumnovelle (talk) 09:38, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am also not yet able to review the book, and I am unlikely to get to it before the end of next month. However, I have included what I could find from online secondary sources, and I am happy to continue searching and contributing. I have been able to find more about her work as an artist; unfortunately, it is probably not enough for SIGCOV yet. I note that she is now listed on the edit-a-thon page as Mary Clemens de Lisle (I think she was also listed under Mary Hay, her birth name), so I would second the Nil's suggestion of delaying until after that event, if possible. Ewhite31 (talk) 18:45, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will withdraw and re-evaluate it after the event is finished. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:07, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you for @Nil NZ for mentioning the upcoming edit-a-thon, I will make sure this article gets some attention leading up to and at that event. Thanks @Traumnovelle it would be great to hold off until after the event, as I hope it can be improved by then. @Ewhite31 Thank you! I will also do some research. Christin Lutze (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

This artist does not meet WP criteria for WP:GNG nor WP:NARTIST. There may be a conflict of interest involved. I had to remove promotional art selling websites three times that were being used as citations, and the creator kept adding them back; the COI template was also removed. Her German WP article is an autobiography. The sources are all connected to the artist (therefore non-independent), for example galleries where she has shown, her own website, an interview, etc. The collection that holds her work is a non-notable private collection. Visual artists do not have inherent notability; this one is simply doing what artists do, making paintings and trying to show and sell them, per WP:MILL. All a BEFORE search found is social media and more directly connected sources. Bringing the article here for the community to decide. Netherzone (talk) 15:59, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional, and there are some self-published sources. Could not find anything about them online. ~Rafael (He, him) • TalkGuestbookProjects 16:33, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Notability not established through reliable, independent sources. Two sources are from a camera company's website; one is an interview with her; one is her own website; one is her biography for a gallery opening. No true claim to notability expressed - the "Heroine" award is not the "first" winner - she's one of 8 or so to win it in the 3rd year the award was given by the camera company. Once again, I apologize for any issues caused and sincerely hope to have the support and guidance of other editors as I continue on this path. 1374maafba (talk) 20:28, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment another WP:WALLOFTEXT explaining abusing WP policies by newbie status. Canvassing is not permitted. LLMs are not permitted. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:37, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The BBC and CBSNews sources that 1374maafba added to the article yesterday suffice to establish notability. As for the likely LLM generated walls of text in the AFD discussion, that's not great, but not a reason for deletion of the article. 13 is a new user, they'll get there eventually. We were all new users once. I personally didn't have LLMs available to me when I was a new user, but, you know, there but for the grace of God.... --GRuban (talk) 15:43, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think it unfair to ask fellow editors to AGF of a SPA machine that has gamed the system, and published two non-notable articles on their 20th and 21st edits. We have enough volunteer work to do. This is not a net gain to the project.--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:28, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
13: advice, listing 28 sources in the AFD is better than nothing, but actually using the best ones from there in the article is better. Ideally the way you'd have written that article was by starting from that list of sources, not by waiting for the AFD. The best ones means respected news sources, that go in depth, and not written by the article subject. Similarly, improving the article is better than writing a lot in the AFD. For the AFD, short is good. Actually for the article short and simple would be good too, phrases like "exploring themes of identity and the complexities of the human experience" and "utilizing metaphor and visual storytelling to convey deep emotional narrative" don't really mean very much. --GRuban (talk) GRuban (talk) 15:53, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your guidance. I'm a new editor and still gaining experience, so I really appreciate your help as I learn. 1374maafba (talk) 20:39, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The WP:THREE sources provided above demonstrate her notability. I'd like to remind everyone to assume good faith. Kovcszaln6 (talk) 08:10, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: This discussion has been tainted by widespread canvassing, attempts to remove other people's comments here, and a smear campaign against the nom. I find it necessary to relist this for a clearer consensus. @1374maafba: you are very close to losing your editing privileges.
